Nestled in a picturesque setting, The Elephant's Nest offers a charming atmosphere ideal for lunch or dinner after a day on Dartmoor. While the food garners praise for its quality and generous portions, many find the prices steep for the experience provided. Some visitors report inconsistencies in service, noting a rushed demeanor from staff and a lack of attentiveness from the owner. Nevertheless, the cozy ambiance, highlighted by roaring fires, makes it a perfect spot for relaxation. Overall, while the restaurant has its merits, guests suggest exploring other local options as well.

Don't miss this remote Inn in beautiful Dartmoor__The food is wonderful -- I had a pea and mint risotto that was delicious and beautifully presented.

We've been visiting this superb pub for about years now on family holidays. It really is a proper Inn in every sense, a perfect drinkers paradise with the added benefit of some fantastic food. We dropped in for lunch after a serious walk on...Dartmoor and the giant elephant burger was exactly what I needed. Incredibly well kept beers always to be found here, the local Dartmoor ales a great match for most dishes. Kids were welcomed and accommodated for, simply order at the bar and hot plates delivered to your table... Wonderful fireplace, great food and great beer, what more could anyone want?

This is a wonderful location to stay and explore Dartmoor or go on adventurous drives with Clydesdales. The dining experience was excellent, both for dinner and breakfast, with cozy fires at both meals. The bedroom was comfortable and warm, and had a small terrace where you could enjoy watching the sunset. The hosts were very accommodating, and we wish them all the best for the summer season.

The Elephant's Nest is a place we sometimes go to with visitors, not least because of its distinctive and remote setting on the Moor. This time it was with one of my daughters and her boyfriend, for an evening meal (and after watching Brighton ..Hove Albion thrash Tottenham earlier in the day.. We had decided to eat relatively early, and on arrival only one other table was occupied. My partner chose the eponymous elephant burger in a brioche bun, whilst my daughter went for boeuf bourgignon with creamy mash. Both men opted for the partridge and mushroom pie with red cabbage, an option not often seen on restaurant menus, and which came with a leg bone sticking out of the top! Everyone enjoyed their main courses, and the pairs each decided that sharing a pudding would suffice so one treacle tart and one blackberry and apple crumble. It was an enjoyable evening with good food.

The restaurant is in a beautiful setting and has a lovely atmosphere. I went with my mother in the afternoon as she lives close by. She had recommended the pub, but unfortunately, it did not live up to expectations. The food was good, but the prices were too high for what we received. The gardens were beautiful, but they would probably be even better in the summer. There was litter in the surrounding areas which made it look untidy. The pub could do with some renovations, maybe a fresh coat of paint. The owner, who was serving behind the bar, was not very efficient. He seemed to be rushing and did not provide good service. When we left, I politely mentioned our dissatisfaction, but he just thanked us as if he didn't care. We didn't spend much money there. The waitress was wonderful, it's a shame she has to work for such a bad boss. Overall, it was a unique and disappointing experience. There are better pubs in the area that are worth visiting instead. It's clear that the owner does not value customer satisfaction.
