Was Anonym at Eightysix a mag?

What Anonym dislikes about Eightysix:
has always delivered amazing food and a fantastic experience. but we ordered the tasting menu and felt that it was not a good value for money. we left starving because the food we were served was suitable for one person was not two. it was not worth everyone. the highlight was dessert, as we received individual portions. we will only go back for the Dessert menu, not for a main meal. We came here on a Sunday evening, in a group of six. Quite an early 6pm dinner before a show. I like the simple but hip ambience and feel of the place. We were served quickly and efficiently, consistently attended to throughout the evening. And the food was beautifully consistent too. Overall, the dishes were on the slightly spicy side but very fresh. The standout was the Pumpkin and Mascarpone Tortellini, although at $34 a serving that consisted of only 5 individual tortellinis, it's probably on the slightly steeper side. The Black Chicken ($42) was also delicious and well balanced. Overall, I really enjoyed Eightysix and would recommend it!
Delicious!! Throughly enjoyed every part, from the service to the food. Great to see a team of people working together to make something special.
NOTE: no longer open for lunch - only dinner. Here for a Saturday night dinner. What a great casual dining experience. The dishes are meant to be shared. The Black Chicken was great - moist, flavoursome, and 2 large piece of chicken. We were watching other tables and the food that was being served - and there was so many tempting things. HINT: do the all you can eat for $80 per person option and try everything. The staff were welcoming and engaging. No wonder this place is so popular - we will be back to try the entire menu.
Went to this restaurant with some anticipation and was a bit disappointed. Excellent food, an interesting wine list, but no wait staff expertise to advise on selection. Chicken parfait was amazing, with a spices rhubarb sauce topping. Truly memorable. Eat it with a spoon. The drawback? Waaaay too noisy inside when busy - outside is on the street and similar problem. Could be better for lunch - and they are only open on Fridays...
I'd resisted 86 because I'm not into pretentious dining and had a feeling it might be overrated, however, I was blown away. The food was incredible! Highlights were the black chicken, gnocchi and banoffee pie. It's not cheap and our waitress was painful, but the food and wine more than made up for it! What an incredible dining experience, probably the most impressive meal I've had in Canberra.
Eightysix restaurant in Canberra has garnered both praise and criticism from diners. While some were disappointed by the overpriced small portions and mediocre food, others raved about the innovative menu and delicious dishes. The lamb cheeks, beef cheeks, and banoffee pie were highlight dishes. The restaurant's popularity is evident from the difficulty in securing a booking, with diners advised to reserve a table well in advance. The ambiance was described as warm and inviting, with an open-style kitchen adding to the modern contemporary vibe. Overall, Eightysix offers a unique dining experience, with some diners already planning their return visits despite mixed reviews.

The food was amazing, and the service was outstanding—truly some of the best we’ve experienced. We were traveling from Melbourne with my mum, who doesn’t speak English, and the staff went above and beyond to make us feel welcome. We ordered the risotto, which was extremely oily. While we initially found it overwhelming, we later learned the dish is meant to be that way. The team was incredibly kind and accommodating, offering to swap the dish for us without hesitation. Unfortunately, despite the wonderful food and service, our experience was overshadowed by a drunk and disruptive person seated next to us. While we understand the restaurant has a lively atmosphere, this individual was clearly intoxicated, making it impossible to enjoy our meal fully. We had even considered staying for dessert, but the situation made it unbearable. It’s a shame that such a great experience was marred by one inconsiderate guest. Atmosphere is unique and fantastic here. Sitting by the kitchen bar is strongly recommended. I tried tiger prawn linguine two years ago. Unfortunately that dish did not appear for the following three times I came back. Also, veggie pasta seems a bit oily. That’s a pity. But the atmosphere and staff are perfect. Still want to come back. Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: A$40–60 Food: 4 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Recommended dishes: Spicy Chicken
We've been to 86 a number of times over the years and we've always enjoyed it. Service has been personal and efficient. Food is great with a good selection including vegetarian options that aren't just a salad. They make there own pasta and slow cooked Ragusa, their tortellini is also handmade buttery and delicious. Vegetarian options: Good selection of vegetarian options, not sure about vegan, but they can possibly adapt Dietary restrictions: Their staff all about dietaries a couple of times at the start of a sitting, and the menu includes pregnancy friendly options Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: A$100–120 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 4
We were warmly greatest. Pedro was our waiter We had the corn, brocholini, steak tartar, tortellini, papadelli rugu, eggplant and finished with fillet steak salad. Finished off banoffee pie. We shared this amongst 4. So amazing and couldn't be faulted. The chili margaritas was amazing! Restaurant was a bit noisy due to room acoustics , but still delightful! We dined here in late January 2022 and had a great experience. The food and drinks were delicious, and we particularly enjoyed the cheeseburger sliders and the caramel popcorn sundae. The service was excellent—staff was attentive when needed, but were unobtrusive otherwise. I highly recommend this place.
Love the hotcakes and the banofee pie. Hope they can redo Sunday lunch as before
Spectacular place. Delicious cocktails and better food. The service is superb, very attentive waiters. We'll look forward to come back. Thanks !!!
The atmosphere was perfect. The staff were very friendly and happily accommodated all of our needs. The food was incredible, and I can't wait for my next visit!
Dining solo can often be a letdown, but that wasn't my experience at Eightysix North. It was truly more than just a restaurant; it was a memorable experience in Canberra! Sitting at the kitchen bar gave me a front-row view of the talented chefs at work. They went out of their way to ensure I was comfortable and even offered me travel tips on what to see around town. The food was exquisite and of the highest quality. I will definitely recommend Eightysix North as THE place to visit to all my colleagues when they are in town.

After visiting my now favorite restaurant in Canberra for the third time, I can confidently say that my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the all-you-can-eat option. We left completely satisfied, with our favorites being the pasta dishes, fried chicken, beef fillet, and of course, the delicious banoffee pie.
In the past, 86 has consistently provided excellent food and a wonderful dining experience. However, our recent experience with the tasting menu left us feeling disappointed. The portion sizes were small and we found ourselves still hungry after finishing. It seemed that the dishes were more suited for one person, rather than two. At a price of $75 per person, we did not feel that it was good value for money. The highlight of the meal was the dessert, as each person received their own individual serving. We may consider returning for the dessert menu in the future, but we will not be returning for a full meal.
