This is the best restaurant in vail. great cocktails and a decent bar scene eating fresh and well prepared unfortunately when we dined here, 12/11/17 vail was dead, no snow, many cancellations even so restaurant was pretty full
Craig was an excellent server and eating was fantastic!
It was such a great experience on our honeymoon! the food and the atmosphere is perfect for such a big occasion
This is the BEST place in all Vail/Beaver-Breek area! great every year when we come for our weekend disappear.
Sweet Basil is right on the pedestrian mall in Vail Village. Lot's of restaurants around, but this is a special one: Waiter was very attentive, explained specials well, chilled our wine! Varied menu, reasonably priced, remember we are in Vail Village. We also visited their sister restaurant, Mountain Standard and it was great, too, overlooking Gore Creek.
Sweet Basil is a highly rated restaurant in Vail that has received mixed reviews. Some guests have expressed disappointment with overcooked food, lackluster service, and a noisy atmosphere. Others have raved about the delicious food, exceptional service, and creative menu options. While some felt that the prices were reasonable for Vail, others expected more for the high price point. Overall, Sweet Basil seems to be a popular choice for those seeking a refined dining experience in Vail, with standout dishes such as the whipped feta and venison receiving high praise.

Sweet Basil had inconsistent reviews and it is easy to see why. The Octopus ragu is an excellent appetizer but the main dishes pale in comparison. Surf and Turf and the red snapper are solid but unspectacular. A breaded pepper with some shrimps inside is a strange addition to a plate with a well-cooked but otherwise unimpressive piece of steak. Red snapper is also well cooked but the addition to the dish such as the coconut sauce is quite bland. Most importantly, no effort is made to welcome you in well enough, service is slow and inattentive. Having to walk across the restaraunt to get assistance is unacceptable. You come out thirsty and slightly frustrated, especially when most of the cafes and restaurants in Vail don’t have that issue. For a “Michelin recommended” restaraunt, it’s a slight disappointment but the service is the major issue.
Came in to get a celiac meal to go. They said they would do it. I waited over 20 min for them to come back and tell me that a group just came in and we will no longer be able to accommodate my meal. Poor management customer service.
I had the loveliest birthday dinner here! Our server, Andy, was attentive, kind, and had the best suggestions. Every selection was incredible, and my husband and I were delighted with each sip and bite! 15/10 would recommend :
If your surf and turf includes a green pepper instead of a lobster tail you deserve a 1 star review. I had to go get fast food afterwards because I was still hungry.
Excellent lunch and service. Pleasant host who seated us.

We were able to get in for a party of 2 at 5pm without a reservation, although I recommend making a reservation (they typically book out of reservations as soon as they come online 30 days ahead of time). The restaurant is dim light, lively, and bustling. We were seated next to the window overlooking the creek running through Vail Village. Our server was very social and attentive, striking up conversation while continually checking on our table. Unpearable: The best pear drink we 've had, wow this was so good, cannot say it enough, have to try it! Light, refreshing, a little tart, a little sweet, peary, perfect! Grilled Sea Scallops: Can 't describe the flavors, but it was comforting and sophisticated. Our favorite dish, and the sea scallops were cooked perfectly. Pork Cheek Poutine: Not your typical poutine, this tastes much better! The potato is more of a hash brown at the base, with pork, cheese curds, and the sauce cooked on top. The hash brown was crispy, and better than any poutine I 've had in Canada! Kampachi Crudo: The fish tasted fresh, there was no fishy, salty taste to it. The flavors complemented it nicely, with a little bit of citrus too. Rotisserie Chicken Salad: Delicious! They load it with chicken that is flavorful and juicy. Seriously, they don 't skimp on the chicken in this dish. The dressing is less fishy than a Caesar salad, and the ingredients complement one another. Glazed Mahi Mahi: It was good, but compared to other dishes our least favorite. It was missing a crisp to the cooked fish, but the sushi rice tots were crispy, warm, soft on the inside, and some of the best we 've had. 'Standard ' Slice of Blueberry Pie: Anything but standard, the best slice I 've ever had! Small wild berries, and it 's not overly sweet, and kinda light. I would have ordered 10 of these. Ruined blueberry pie for me. Snickers Ice Cream Bar: Get the blueberry pie. Normally a chocolate guy, and nothing wrong with it, but it 's about what you 'd expect, and the pie is better in my opinion. Overall, the food, service, and setting was amazing! A great experience and we will be back if we 're in Vail again.
My first few time or two to Mountain Standard were so mid that I almost stopped giving it a try. It's one of my mother in law's favorite places for a semi-casual option in Vail so we popped in for a late lunch. We didn't have a reservation and the hostess wasn't very happy to seat us. We were going to leave, but our server insisted it was fine. We were a table of 5. I believe our server's name was Marilyn and she was absolutely incredible. She was quick and answered so many questions. We got a little bit of everything on the menu: cocktails, mocktails, children's food, appetizers, salads, entrees and desserts. Everything was so good. They've really upped their game. I always like an interesting cocktail with a fun name, my older table mates enjoyed their spicy margaritas. I was particularly impressed by the pork shank and a runner up was the spaghetti fra diavolo. I've been dreaming of the homemade snickers ice cream bar ever since though. I can't believe how good it was.
Spectacular dinner. Get a reservation way in advance....although we got lucky and someone had just cancelled so we were seated at 6 pm. Drinks excellent. Local beers are excellent. Poutine lick the plate good. Mahi outstanding!! Kitchen sauce this is a favorite you can buy the kitchen a round of beers!! Mason service!! Snickers ice cream bar we almost skipped this am so glad we broke down and ordered. Its takes exactly like a snickers WOW!!!
Lunch was fantastic as always. Me and some friends came in for drinks and light apps and boy we were satisfied! I ordered a wonderful pear drink and then the wedge salad and the biscuit. The biscuit was to die for, I HIGHLY recommend. The service was great and everyone there is so friendly. Loved the food and the ambiance once again, can't wait to come back!
Why has no one told me about mountain standard?!? Would I drive to Denver for the pimento cheese and biscuits alone? YES. We came during the In Between menu (between lunch and dinner) so we had limited options, but everyone was insane, so didn't feel like we missed out at alll. The biscuits have jam and prosciutto on them and flaky salt. They were soo fluffy and buttery. I'm sad we only ordered two! The wedge had the best toppings ever with your not-so-standard herb dressing. The pimento cheese is a crowd favorite per our server and I can absolutely see why. Name one thing better than warm pimento cheese with bacon jam on crusty sourdough??? Nothing. Coming back to try everything else. If you're in vail, definitely make a reservation because they're busy!
