The food is average, nothing that really stands out. The service was absolutely terrible. No refills of water, no one checked in on us. We had to walk up to pay up front so we can leave. Don't understand why this place was in the Michelin recommended, looking at the reviews it seems I'm not the only one.
What are intentionally cute place. We love coming here whenever we come to Vail and just sitting and enjoying the delicious wines, the amazing service, and the food. It is a wonderful place.
Sweet Basil had inconsistent reviews and it is easy to see why. The Octopus ragu is an excellent appetizer but the main dishes pale in comparison. Surf and Turf and the red snapper are solid but unspectacular. A breaded pepper with some shrimps inside is a strange addition to a plate with a well-cooked but otherwise unimpressive piece of steak. Red snapper is also well cooked but the addition to the dish such as the coconut sauce is quite bland. Most importantly, no effort is made to welcome you in well enough, service is slow and inattentive. Having to walk across the restaraunt to get assistance is unacceptable. You come out thirsty and slightly frustrated, especially when most of the cafes and restaurants in Vail don’t have that issue. For a “Michelin recommended” restaraunt, it’s a slight disappointment but the service is the major issue.
Wonderful dining experience!! From start to finish, top to bottom! Our waitress, Megan, was delightful polished, professional and on her game!! Best dessert ever Lemon Fennel !
Ordered ahi tuna appetizer. I couldn’t tell by the pasty texture that it was tuna. When I asked about it the waitress said it was like a tuna tartar but I could not recognize any red tuna chunks. It was just paste. I was there on a night the restaurant changed some wines on the menu. Unfortunately I was looking at an old menu that hadn’t been removed. The white Burgundy Meursault glass I ordered was $25 but when the check came it was charged at $36 which was the price of the new white Burgundy glass. I told the waitress I was sure the glass was $25 but all she showed me was the new menu with a glass at $36. I had ordered two of them. Upon leaving the older lady greeting customers said that is what happened and walked away. I’ve lived in Vail for 35 years and have found Sweet Basil less customer service responsive than other fine dining restaurants. It doesn’t have to be that way.
