What Peter Anania dislikes about Billy G's:
We went on Valentine 's day, which I know can be a very difficult night for a restaurant, but it really wasn 't that busy when we arrived. As we were leaving it picked up quite a bit, but I can 't use the excuse that they were overwhelmed. First, let me say that it 's not fine dining on the same scale as AV, or Angelo 's is or as the Ryah House was. As an example, the wine by the glass choices are limited to Woodbrid... As an example, the wine by the glass choices are limited to Woodbridge only. The facility is also very cold. I imagine that in summer this wouldn 't be an issue, but just so you know.
My wife and I travel to many fine dining restaurants in the area and out side of the area. It is by far the very best dining experience we've had in a very very long time. The wild mushroom soup with soft pastry on top was outstanding, the giant meat ball well what could i say, it was a giant and truly amazing! For our main meal my wife had the crab cakes and I had the Twin lobster tails, her crab cakes where exactly what they were suppose to be, all crab no fillers. My lobster tails where the very best I've ever had in my life. This was our first time visiting this wonderful fine dining establishment we will definitely be returning thank you so much for a wonderful meal!!! Jeff U. Fashion Floor
We tried Billy G's for the first time last night a Thursday around 8pm . We didn't make reservations and were a little nervous that they would be super busy since it was the evening before Valentine's Day. We walked in the front door and weren't really sure where to go and then a waitress told us to walk toward the back to the hostess stand. If you go it's probably best to enter through the side door because it takes you right to the hostess stand. We were immediately seated after we got to the stand. They weren't as busy as I thought they would be, which we were happy about. A young man brought over bread and a plate of peppers. The bread came with butter and garlic cloves, which were delicious. We didn't order any appetizers, although they all sounded good. My boyfriend ordered one of the specials, which was surf and turf $45 . That came with a veggie, potato and salad. He chose the Caesar salad and said it was great. I ordered the Pansotti in Walnut Sauce $18 and that came with choice of a side salad. I had the Misto salad, which was very good. The waitress said it came with blue cheese, which I'm not a fan of so I declined the cheese. The menu shows it comes with Gorgonzola though. My boyfriend ordered his steak medium, but it came out more rare. He said it was very good though, but not as good as the steaks at Fire and Ice. I personally liked the atmosphere and service at Billy G's way more than Fire and Ice. He also said the lobster was too big, which caused it to be a little on the chewy side. My dish was ok, but when I saw it I immediately wished I ordered the Artichoke Risotto... the Pansotti in Walnut Sauce is not the most appetizing looking dish. We also ordered a bottle of wine $28 . If we ordered by the glass they only serve one cheap brand, which we're not fans of. Our waitress was excellent and checked on us often. She was very friendly and made the dining experience wonderful. We were very full after our entrees so we ordered dessert to go. I ordered the creme brulee rice pudding delicious! and my boyfriend ordered a mint chocolate cake. We will definitely go again and might even sit at the bar sometimes. They offer a happy hour bar menu from Tues-Thurs. The bar menu seems like it changes and they post updates on Facebook. They also offer a special 4 course meal on Tues-Thurs for $35 a person, but the vegetarian option had mushrooms, which I'm allergic to. There was an eggplant rollatini on the special 4 course menu, but it wasn't on the regular menu. I may have ordered that. I do wish there were a few more vegetarian items to choose from because we'd probably go more often. We spent $115 before tip. They make a Reggiano Parmesan 100lb cheese bowl, which seems very popular because I always see pictures posted of it. It's $13 a person and the table must order two because it's prepared table side. It looks delicious, but then I was walking toward the women's restroom and saw the huge round Parmesan bowl sitting on a table to the side. I walked right by it and thought it was a little gross for it to be sitting there out in the opened so I definitely decided I won't ever order that.
