Loved the town, the restaurant, the service, and the pinchos! Great place to go for local food.
This was the best meal in Basque country for little money. The food is rich, tasteful and portions are just about what I could fit in. Service is quick and personnel is very friendly. Even though kids managed to break a glass. Atmosphere is maybe the only thing lacking, but the city itself compensates it in full. Enjoy Giroa!
Very noisy (soccer match), but I would get over it. Fried calamari: very greasy(fatty) and chewy. Octopus rice salad: one teaspoon of octopus plus was unevenly dressed. Lamb chops with fries and red pepper total disaster: fries greasy (fatty), 2small pieces of peppers, meat smelled very bad and looked tired. We sent the plate back to kitchen, waitress (who previously didnt speak english) brought the plate back after few minutes, shouting at us, that the smell is normal and that the PACKAGE was fresh and put the plate back to our table.
If you want a romantic dinner for two, then this not the place for you! However, if you want some excellent food and drink in the company of a lively local crowd then you're in luck. The staff seemed to know all the other customers personally, but we were nevertheless made to feel very welcome. There was a large range of very tasty pintxos at €2 each. On the main menu were sea bass at €11 and what appeared to be a whole monkfish at €14. The very palatable house Rioja was €1.40 a glass and the excellent local beer was €2.50 for 50cl. It was so good, we came here twice for dinner and once for lunch. Eating out in Getaria can be an expensive experience. Do yourself a favour. Ignore the more pretentious places and come here.
