The smarter end of the eating establishments in Getaria. K-k food was great and service impeccable. The decor was a little old fashioned for me. But I’m sure many would like it. I thought the prices were a little high given portion sizes. But this didn’t seem to put anyone off. The place was full. 8pm was too early. 9pm the place was full.
The affected maritime theme (nicely polished in the upstairs dining room was appropriate for the rest of our meal. The food was pretty good but not outstanding, the prices mostly hilariously inflated (in comparison with the six other restaurants we ate at in Getaria , and the service was adequate. One gets the sense that they are trying to project a particular image (for Michelin? but stripped down to the essentials, this is more of a caricature than the real thing. The Gucci display was kind of funny, though,
We came here for a sit-down lunch after visiting a nearby Txakoli winery for a tour. The grilled Turbot we shared was fantastic and they had delicious bread and local wines aplenty. For a small town with multiple Michelin star restaurants, Kaia Kaipe sure knows how to set the bar high.
Inadequate service (not enough servers for a packed restaurant), overpriced grilled fish (126 Euros for a 1.4 kg. fish and 122.5 Euros for a 1.25 fish), side dishes with inadequate portions for even one person and lack of interest or surprise by the servers for a birthday (arranged weeks in advance and buying a 40 Euro cake prepared by the restaurant) which was just dumped on the table and not served. I expected much more from a Michelin restaurant. Would I return? Absolutely not. Would I recommend it to others? No.
Very disappointed! We sat upstairs where they have added so many tables that the waitress could only serve by standing at one end and reaching over the diners. The fish was served cold and lacked any sign of having been cooked on the 'parilla '. The standard has dropped a lot over the years. Time to Move on and find another restauarant!
