Very pretty village years since I 'd been there. It will be a long time before I go back. What should have been a lovely meal left us totally underwhelmed. No we hadn 't booked and where offered the choice of a table next to the kitchen or at the far end. We opted for rhe former as it turned out, as we left we saw something that confirmed our later suspicions. Starters mine was good 'wild mushrooms in a creamy sauce '; my husbands choice curried cauliflower soup. The 'soup ' was just puried cauliflower, so thick the spoon stood up in it. Not sure how they imagined that could be called soup. No sooner had our starter plates been removed than the main course was presented. The mains, mine was venison, my husband 's was chicken pie. The issue the venison was good not overcooked and, unlike the rest of the dish, hot. The potato mash warm, the parsnip puree so cold it took the little warmth away from the plate. The chicken pie hot but served with beef gravy?? the rest of the meal, like mine, tepid and the chips looked like they 'd seen better days. We did make a comment were assured that everything was kept under a warmer, temperature probed they would heat it up for us. We declined. No way were we having venison or chips microwaved. We were subsequently offered a free coffee or dessert, which we again declined. As we got up to leave my husband saw reflected in a mirror, by the kitchen door, plates of cooked food left on work surfaces ready to go out. It would explain how our mains were served so quickly after our starter plates had been removed because it had already been cooked placed to one side rather than waiting for the paying customer to finish one course before starting to assemble the next. We won 't be going back
