Hickory Roots Bbq - Terrell
Hickory Roots Bbq
Description
Hickory Roots BBQ has garnered a mixed reputation, blending moments of culinary brilliance with notable inconsistencies. While many patrons rave about the flavorful ribs and welcoming staff, others find the food lacking, citing dry brisket and bland sides. The restaurant's service model has also raised eyebrows, with a shift from a buffet line to server-taken orders feeling unnecessary. Despite the occasional culinary missteps, some diners affirm that the restaurant's atmosphere and standout salad bar position it as a solid choice for BBQ enthusiasts, particularly when on a road trip. Overall, expectations should be tempered, as Hickory Roots remains a mix of delightful and average experiences.

The service was odd. Instead of the usual buffet line, you have to wait for a server to take your order, which feels unnecessary for a BBQ restaurant. The brisket was a bit dry and not very impressive. The mac and cheese lacked flavor and had a mushy texture, while the fried okra tasted like it was from the freezer. I can't recommend this place.

You have never tasted a really good barbeque until you have been to Hickory Roots BBQ at 705 E Moore Ave in Terrell, Texas. The meat is cooked juicy and tender inside. Maybe the aroma and flavor of the bbq is from the hickory burning wood, but it takes a really good pit master to make it all happen. He made it happen when we were there. No matter where you are travelling, this place is worth that extra stop. Try it and you will not be disappointed.
I ordered two chopped BBQ sandwiches with BBQ sauce and two dinner salads, specifying only lettuce, cheese, and ranch dressing. However, I received the salads with everything except cheese. This has happened several times now.
I apologize for the mix-up; I accidentally reviewed the wrong restaurant. I've deleted my previous review because I haven't had the chance to visit Hickory Roots Barbecue yet, but I'm looking forward to it. I meant to review Soulman’s Barbecue, which I've actually been to. Hopefully, I'll see you soon, Hickory Roots!
