Reviews - Taneda
Reviews summary
Taneda delivers a near-perfect kaiseki/omakase experience in Seattle, pairing hyper-seasonal, artfully composed sushi with personalized sake pours. Housed in an intimate upstairs spot beneath Tacos Chukis, the chef-led service is warm and attentive, and plates are exquisitely balanced and surprisingly filling. Monthly menus highlight rare fish and inventive seasonings; prices reflect the premium experience. Reservations are fiercely competitive and parking is limited, but for food lovers seeking an unforgettable, celebratory meal, Taneda is worth the effort.

Innovative and Fresh! (visited in March) This is the best sushi restaurant in the Seattle area, though securing a reservation can be a challenge. Parking: You'll probably need to find street parking on your own. View all feedback.

I’m genuinely sad to be writing this review because I used to be a die hard fan of Taneda. My husband and I started going before the pandemic and would visit at least once every quarter. It was always something we looked forward to. Unfortunately, in the last few years, every return visit has felt increasingly lackluster. If you’ve never been before, I can see how the experience might still feel enjoyable. But for the price point, it no longer feels worth it to me. The dishes feel less exciting and more low effort than they used to be, and overall the experience now comes across more like a money grab than a carefully curated omakase. What really stood out was how much the level of hospitality has changed. In the past, staff would thoughtfully retrieve our coats and handbags from under our chairs at the end of the meal. Now, that level of attentiveness is gone. And to be clear, that kind of service was present even during pandemic times. I’ve spoken to more than ten people who feel the same way, that Taneda was significantly better a few years back. That consistency in feedback makes this even more disappointing. It’s sad because I truly loved this place and wanted to continue supporting it. I hope they take a step back and refocus on what made Taneda so special in the first place. One of the top 3 traditional omakase experiences in Seattle. Reservations are hard to come by but it's well worth the effort. Personalized sake pairings make the excellent experience even better. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Parking space: Difficult to find parking

Taneda-san's skill with akami and kohada is truly impressive. Each bite reflects meticulous attention to detail and a profound respect for the craft. However, considering the price, one would expect a broader selection of ocean delicacies. While the traditional dishes are excellent, a bit more creativity would enhance the overall experience and bring it to a higher level.
This was genuinely the best meal I've ever had. Each dish was exceptional on its own, and it gave me the opportunity to try things I wouldn't have considered otherwise. Chef Taneda added to the experience with his engaging personality and humor while sharing details about each dish. The entire staff was equally outstanding, creating an experience that was truly worthwhile, beyond just the food. I absolutely plan to return in a different season when the menu and ingredients change.
Absolutely the best dining experience of my life. I think it’d be impossible to describe what it was like, I’ll just say that I am completely willing to just eat rice/lentils at home in order to save up to go to Taneda once each season ???. Each piece/dish was truly a work of art! I loved how sakura was incorporated to reflect the spring season!
My wife somehow got us reservations for the 7:30 seating on my actual birthday. Dont know how she did it considering how difficult it is to get into this place. Have had high end Omakase many times before and this experience was near the top! Loved the cool little location of the shop and the atmosphere. All the patrons and staff were friendly and festive. Chef was great and the sake pours didnt stop. Everything was beautiful, delicious and amazing. Cant wait to go back once I have saved up some money again!! Loved everything about Taneda!!!
It took me a long time after eating at Taneda to find a word, any word to describe what had just happened. But let 's start from the beginning. You have seconds from when the reservations release to be able to snag anything available and I have yet to succeed. Thankfully a friend was able to get one and happened to have an available seat that I gladly filled. Taneda is located under Tacos Chukis, which has always been a point of interest for me because I always see it as I make my way upstairs for tacos, and ever since they opened there I had always had the thought of Oh I should give them a try but I never connected the dots that this was the Taneda that was impossible to get reservations for Chef Taneda is exceedingly polite and down to earth. He is easy to talk to and quick with a laugh. The staff are also great, making sure water/tea are always full while whisking away plates or bringing out the next sake for your pairing. I think Taneda offers the truest sake pairing I 've ever had. They bring out completely different sake per person depending on your likes and dislikes , and the staff explains where each one is from and how it will taste in very good detail. The food was out of this world. The sushi looks deceptively small, but they are well sized for one bite. The plated arrangements were beautiful and the flavors worked together extremely well. The word I 'm looking for is awestruck. That 's how I felt walking out of Taneda after finishing the final dessert. Wishing you all the luck in getting a reservation here, you won 't regret it!

This is the type of restaurant that inspires you to travel across the country for a weekend just to secure a reservation through a friend. The menu is spectacular and emphasizes hyper-seasonal ingredients, creating a truly intimate dining experience. Although I've encountered most of the ingredients before, Taneda san and his team managed to present them in such a way that it felt like meeting unagi or aji for the very first time. Everything was beautifully crafted, and I genuinely hope we have the opportunity to visit again.
**TL;DR:** This is still the best sushi restaurant in Seattle, featuring an incredible monthly menu! **Pros:** 1. The October 2021 menu includes a fantastic selection of fish and unique offerings, such as blackthroat nigiri, Wagyu steak, and shabu shabu. 2. The seasonings are delightful, and more robust than before. The yuzu seasoning is particularly refreshing and aromatic; you can really taste it on some of the white fish and in the steak sauce. 3. The staff continues to be incredibly friendly and welcoming. **Cons:** 1. Prices have increased again, more than they did over the summer. However, given the improved quality of the food, I would consider it a reasonable increase. That said, I still prefer the previous $140 range, which truly set it apart on the entire West Coast. 2. Making reservations is still quite challenging. Some guests are even resorting to using software tools to secure a spot, making it even more difficult. Overall, this remains the highest quality sushi restaurant in Seattle, boasting a different menu each month. While the service is excellent, booking a reservation can be tough. The prices are manageable, although they were a better value (about $50 less) before 2020.
Favorite restaurant in Seattle. It’s impossible to get a table for 1. Trying everyday at 12:01 AM (the release time of the Seating, 2 months ahead) If anyone interested in teaming up to get a reservation, please dm me on Instagram
Chefs were very professional and knowledgeable. Combination of appetizers, sushi and other seafoods were nicely balanced as well.
Taneda offers the most exceptional dining experience I've ever had. Seattle has a lot of great sushi options, and I've been fortunate to sample many of them, but Taneda truly stands out with its stunning and intricate flavors. The restaurant strikes a perfect balance between contemporary and traditional flavor profiles, complemented by remarkably attentive service. I seldom feel the urge to write restaurant reviews, but the quality of each ingredient and the artistry in the execution compelled me to share my thoughts about this new favorite. If it were possible, I would give more than five stars. Chef Taneda’s sushi is both artistic and delicious, fulfilling every expectation I have for a meal. I don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed such an incredible sushi experience even in Japan! I can’t wait to return.
