I’m staying over at the Scalloway hotel. It is great. The foood is like old fashioned home cooking. Great portions and great taste. I almost forgot to take a photo I was enjoying so much
Managing a hotel in the current climate is challenging at the best of times, but on an island many miles from the mainland it brings with it another level of complexity. Things, therefore, can and do go wrong. The difference is how you respond to your guests when they bring a concern to you. In the case of the team at the Scalloway Hotel they went above and beyond. It takes a lot to impress me, but they did! They, and other locals, have made our first trip to Shetland a positively, memorable experience. Thank you all for showcasing your island in such a fantastic manner. We wish you all every success.
Although the staff were friendly this was a rather 'tired ' 'commercial ' hotel that didn 't live up to its website. After we had booked in and were settling in our room, a member of staff burst in without knocking, saying sorry, we thought the room was empty because it was quiet! Bizarre. The room did have a sea view, but was built partly under the staircase so a little noisy when people tramped up to the next floor. It was also small, and the 'double ' bed very narrow, perhaps four foot wide? En suite also narrow with toilet that was difficult to flush properly. Evening meal was a bit grim, we thought the steak pie would be a safe bet, but was just meat piled on puff pastry, with under done vegetables. Somebody 's idea of a 'trendy ' meal? Unbalanced and far too dry, could only eat half of it. Chef 's day off? Continental breakfast was fine. (Which was just as well as the cooked breakfast was rather expensive! Local street parking was plentiful and free a benefit that takes some getting used to!
This restaurant is fantastic! The food and wine are excellent, and the view of the sea is breathtaking. The staff is extremely friendly.
We are very pleased with our experience at this restaurant. The staff were all very friendly, the bar was great, and the food was exceptionally good. We highly recommend the seared scallops and shellfish bisque. Peter and Caroline were very attentive and welcoming hosts. It was a long journey from Australia, but it was definitely worth it.
