What User doesn't like about The Cornerstone Bb And:
We called late morning for a bite to eat and decided on the full breakfast, the service was very efficient and the food arrived within minutes ! A little too quick actually, as it was obvious that although our plates had a very large amount...of food, sausages, bacon, eggs, black pudding, beens, hash browns toast, it had been cooked a lot earlier and kept warm which is a real shame as it’s such a lovely little cafe View all feedback.
Good food for a good price and good sized portions.Certainly good for a family to eat out at.You can hire the whole rest
Only willing to serve if we ate outside (damp and windy) as they were fully booked Had the distinct impression that they did not really want visitors.
Food really good. Haddock was just right in terms of cooking and portion size. Very friendly accommodating staff. Pleasant place to eat with nice décor. Now the but, sadly one member of staff does not wear a face mask at the tables.. In these troubled...times this is not acceptable. It was clear to see the discomfort of some of the dinners. The person involved was very polite and looked to provide exceptional customer service but we are not out of the pandemic yet.
The Cornerstone is currently the only place to eat in centre of Scalloway. The Scalloway Hotel, which was far and away one of the best eating places in Shetland, has closed down because of the Covid pandemic, and the Kiln Bar is currently undergoing refurbishment....So, what can the Cornerstone offfer instead. Not a lot. The menu is limited and basic, offering staples such as haddock and chips, macaroni cheese and quiche, plus vatious sandwiches, paninis, etc. I had haddock and can honestly say that in over years of eating out in Shetland, this was the worst haddock that I have ever had. It was small, thin and tasteless. The Northern Isles are the place to go for haddock and the Cornerstone is only a couple of hundred yards from the Scalloway fish market. Where the Cornerstone sources its fish from, I don't know, but it can't be locally unless they the proceed to murder it in their kitchen. The chips are also tasteless. They are fresh and crisp, but are entirely without flavvour. The place itself is nicely furnished, but there is no effort at social distancing. Tables are packed in and I was certainly less that metre from the people on the adjacent table. The manager/owner was wandering around chatting to people at their tables, but he was not wearing a face mask. Prices are reasonable and the staff are very friendly, but that does not make up for the shortcomings.
Ate here a couple of times during our stay on the island. A quaint little place which is clearly extremely popular by the amount of regulars and bookings they were taking whilst we were there. A simple but tasty menu. Staff were also very friendly...and prompt with everything in regards to service. We would highly recommend
