What Javonte Bruen doesn't like about Akarui:
Service is excellent, decore quite traditional. Lots of choice on the menu. The food was okay, think food was defrosted in the microwave, the wakame had ice in it, the gyoza was store bought, and the raw fish didn't seem fresh, but the rice was...good. Again excellent service, and decent price but not quality Japanese food. View all feedback.
Great little Japanese dining that is easily overlooked in Randwick, I have eaten there twice now with my wife and we will probably make it the regular for our Japanese fix. The first visit we had the chicken katsu roll with a coffee for lunch. The coffee was surprisingly good and the roll was very tasty which besides the chicken also included egg and salad, which was very filling. My most recent visit was for dinner which to my opinion was fantastic. The hosts were very polite and talkative and I couldn't fault their service at all. My wife and I had the pork gyoza, chicken katsu curry and beef bibimbap. The gyoza were delicious, not excessively oily and the filling was tasty and light . The bibimbap was really good, all the ingredients were fresh and delicious with everything served perfectly. Lastly, the chicken katsu curry was perfect! It's everything I like my curry to be and probably one of the best katsu curries I've tried in Sydney. The chicken was cooked perfectly with a beautiful layer of panko breadcrumbs, the sauce was a nice consistency and colour with a great mix of vegetables, flavour and good hint of spice to it. Price is reasonable and on par with most dining out locations. However, I think the serving sizes for the prices were larger than expected and my wife and I were unable to finish what we order, so we took the rest home for a lovely lunch the next day:)

Hungry place for a casual meal (brekky or lunch) in randwick, with food from Western and Japanese/Korean influences. food teriyaki chicken bento. very tasty bento. the chicken was well cooked, the egg was delicious and the sashimi was also good. However, the gyoza was fried too much and it tasted like chewing carton. overall the bento was hearty and healthy they also serve coffee, tee, cake etc. and also serves as a small caffe, so very round here price $11,90 decent price service great service. friendly staff (you can also speak Korean). waiting for the bento was a bit long.
Small Japanese place on the corner alison and belmore road. the dame and the man who work there are beautiful and hospitable. they offer a series of entrees like edamame, gyoza, oldashi tofu, takoyaki, karage. they also sell salate, sashimi and benton box offers. they have plakate advertising some really nice gabi jim, but they often have never. some other specials advertised like bark ribs and chili pork. we have the Agadashi tofu, beautiful but quite casual, certainly delicious. I have the sashimi, which was a generous portion, accompanied by two sushi pieces. hubby got the tonkatsu curry, which was a decent size with rice and salat. beautiful court...read more
