What lickmylips dislikes about Crown:
Found this on TripAdvisor and saw it had good ratings for its food, so thought we'd give it a try while visiting Colne. I ordered the homemade minced meat pie and veg. Found it really bland to be honest. All the veg was just plainly boiled and had no flavour. They were decent-sized portions but I have to admit I was underwhelmed. The food seemed of the quality you'd get in an everyday cafe tbh.On the plus, the staff... View all feedback.
We have been dining at this restaurant for years. We bid a fond farewell to the previous owners. Upon returning, we found that the food was excellent under the new ownership. Well done, guys!
Visited the restaurant today (September) with my family. We only booked a table this afternoon for tea time. Upon arrival, we waited in the corridor until someone greeted us. We were seated quickly and our drinks order was taken immediately. The food was good value, especially the lasagne which had generous portions. The kids' meal was also reasonably priced. The lemon and orange pudding was delicious with a light sponge. We will definitely be returning for the great food. The only downside was the lack of communication among the young female waitresses, as they each asked us multiple times if we had ordered, wanted dessert, or if everything was okay.
It was wonderful to see the Crown restaurant open and I visited last evening. The food and drinks were excellent. All the tables were well spaced out, making me feel very safe. The staff wore face masks and were welcoming, friendly, and very professional. The food was delicious, hot, and tasty. It was a lovely treat to have a meal cooked for me without having to do any washing up. It's great to be able to eat out again, and I will definitely be back soon. Thank you to the entire staff for a great experience.
Three of us have been coming to the splendidly located Crown Hotel in Colne for over twenty years. It is a couple of minutes walk from the Preston to Colne local service, and there is a bus stop literally outside the front door. The hotel has been the premier place to stay in Colne since the railway brought tourists to Colne in the days of Queen Victoria. Our booking was made last year -2023, we heard that it had changed hands since we were last there in 2023. During the times we had been going the daily bed and breakfast rate remained remarkably little changed. We were welcomed by Vicky and we were told that the daily rate had changed. Two of our group could be accommodated in en suite rooms. Head Chef Steve was excellent, his full English breakfasts set you up for the day. He is a man with local knowledge which came in useful when our departure trains to Preston were cancelled. We understand that the Crown has been taken over by a brewery chain. The location is exceptional and the stone building with limited parking at the side only needs someone of vision to appreciate the hotel’s potential and restore the hotel to the community hub it has been in the recent past. Roast dinners are available as well as pub fare. We do hope to be able to return to The Crown in the not too distant future. As they do say on the website it is useful to ring ahead to determine what it the art of the possible.
Great pub/hotel right at the bottom of colne high Street. We didn't pay much so expected not much but a great time was had. Very clean basic rooms, adequate breakfast at nothing really to complain about. It is what it is. Do yourself a favor and have a cheap night away, it's cold dark and miserable so a quick visit to somewhere like this will put a smile back on your face. Many thanks to everyone, keep up the good work
