I’d like to share my honest review of our experience yesterday for Fathers Day dinner. Let’s start off with the good! the food was delicious!! Our entire table enjoyed all of their food! the overall vibe of the BBQ pit was so fun; live music, axe throwing, lots of fun outdoor games for guests to enjoy after some pretty awful service and some lip from the owner, the owner did make it right. The bad we started off waiting quite some time for drinks. Someone in our party ordered a mixed drink — it didn’t come out without complaining. And our drinks weren’t refilled for over an hour. after 1.5 hours, I asked our waitress for our CHILDRENS food, and was told it wasn’t possible as they were so backed up.. okay! Totally get it, Father’s Day, totally overbooked themselves…….. so I asked for bread for our children. (9 and 6 years old; little guy was crying, we didn’t give him lunch so he’d eat dinner).. had to ask 2 times, for our waitress to tell us that she’s sorry but there’s no bread. Ok. Soon after, our dinners came out WITH BREAD ON THE TRAYS…. BREAD ON THE TRAY my $50 steak kabobs cold—to say I was irate would be an understatement. The owner came over and questioned why I was so upset “over bread” since his waitress brought bread and butter. My husband and I explained that wasn’t the case, nothing was brought out— this went back for forth for a minute or so…. Eventually, I think he may have understood my frustration. ……Soon after…a warm dinner, ice cream and watermelon were given to my boys. This was a VERY kind gesture from the owner. Our check was fixed to reflect the inconveniences. In the end, he made it right we appreciate it. They removed the included tip and we still tipped 20%, people are human. Customer perception Good service starts from the top up. He made it clear that our waitress was “just a young girl”.. so train staff better and don’t overbook your restaurant.
Deplorable is the best word to describe our experience. Everything from the amateur hour occurring in the kitchen to the abhorrent service. The food shouldn’t even be classified as restaurant grade; let’s put it this way: Even an at-home cook knows that you don’t liberally pour lemon juice over cooked poultry. The pasta is most definitely not made in-house. The sauce is canned.Frankly, don’t waste your time or your money on this waste. Plenty of other options with quality ingredients that isn’t engrained with the Old Forge mentality of laying down a linen table cloth and serving inedible food and calling yourself a restaurant.Let’s take a look at their menu; 2 proteins served 6 or 7 different ways? Hmm, I wonder if someone was a caterer and failed at their previous venture? What an amazing joke.Unacceptable and sad. And I won’t be calling the restaurant or accepting an abusive response from the proprietor; their food spoke for itself and the decline of Old Forge in general. One and done; wouldn’t return if they offered me a free meal and a chauffeur.
I ordered gnocchi and meatballs with vodka sauce at the Italian festival in Scranton, but I was disappointed with what I received. I got a very small bowl of overcooked gnocchi and just half of a meatball for $18. When I asked the owner for a refund, he refused, despite the fact that I had hardly eaten any of it. To make matters worse, they served me red sauce instead of vodka sauce, and the half meatball was cold. Overall, it was a letdown.
I wish I had checked out this restaurant before bringing friends along. We were disappointed with the slow service, and our drinks were left empty for too long. They're charging $4.00 for each soda, including refills, which feels like being nickeled and dimed. Paying $12.00 for just four panko-coated clams seemed excessive. Overall, we found the food to be average at best. It's unlikely that we'll return.
Fathers Day… I had a 4pm reservation. First they sat us at a picnic table at the back of the bbq pit. Which I could over look if this was the only issue. Near tall weeds and other things on the ground. Waited for service and after 40 minutes I had to go get a waitress myself. We ordered food and drinks at this point. Waitress seemed annoyed that we wanted to order everything at once. Unfortunately with a 1 year old we can only last so long. 30 more minutes go by and at this point we’re there for 1h10m. Not even a drink yet. I again go get the waitress and ask. She’s says the drinks will be right over. Another 30 minutes go by. At this point were there for 1h40m with not even a drink. Unfortunately we had to leave and Father’s Day dinner was ruined. I will say I expect to wait longer at this restaurant. Over the years myself and my family have spent countless dinners at this restaurant. Food is always excellent. But you do wait. Which usually is fine, but 1h40m and no drinks and rude wait staff has pushed me over the limit. You at least have to be bringing drinks to the table even if the food takes longer. The food is worth the wait. But this was way too long and all waitress were rude. Will no longer patronize this restaurant.
