The Ship Aground - North Devon
The Ship Aground
Description
Nestled in Mortehoe, this pub boasts a lively atmosphere and ample outdoor seating, perfect for soaking up the sun. Patrons rave about the excellent range of locally brewed ales and ciders, alongside a menu that features generous portions of traditional pub fare. While some experiences have highlighted service inconsistencies and quality concerns—particularly with certain dishes like the Ploughman's Lunch—many visitors enjoy satisfying meals like gammon steak and chips, prawn cocktails, and Sunday roasts. Friendly, chatty staff add to the charm, making it a popular spot for both locals and holidaymakers seeking a hearty meal.

Great eating, well appreciated and dear location. the family attracted here and the children are absolutely massive. if they are looking for somewhere to eat here, then they are not looking for anything for all budgets and bellies!
Easier pub, which was friendly and the best ham and chips for miles round. great portions and beer was great to appreciate the walk in front of the hand. great way to finish your day
This is a popular pub and deserves that. not being turned off when it seems to be done, sitting out there can be available quite quickly. the drinks are great and eating is good. one of the best things is that they order their food and drinks on a luke outside. there is a good atmosphere and the staff is friendly and helpful. the ham was delicious.
We had a lovely pub meal on Saturday evening. It was busy but the service was friendly and efficient. Good selection of drinks and lovely pub food.
We have been to this pub several times and decided to make a reservation for Sunday lunch at 2:30 pm. Upon arriving at 2:30 pm, I was worried when another group at the bar mentioned they had booked a table but were told they could sit anywhere. When I went to the bar for another drink at 3:00 pm, I found that the carvery was closed. I inquired why and was told they had run out of vegetables and potatoes, but could make some mashed potatoes instead. It seems like amateurs are running what could be a decent establishment. I will not be returning.
