Great Historic hotel with active and well stocked bar Our room (the JJ Astor) had balcony access and private bathroom/shower but shared bathroom for other rooms, was clean and convenient We stayed Sunday and Monday night (with NBA playoffs going in the bar) and had zero noise problems. Champagne brunch was ok. We came at 2:30 and the buffet table where the food was, the warmers were out and the food wasn't hot. When we have a buffet at our country club, the food is hot. I think that they were shutting down. The prime rib was cut up n steaks and it was cold. You would think that 38.00 It would b off the hook but I was very disappointed. It's fantastic! The food is delicious, the service is excellent, and the atmosphere is lively and festive. Everything about Murphy's Historical Hotel makes it worth a visit. It's definitely one of our favorite places!
Excellent Christmas Eve dinner! Great service from our waiter, Christian!
I had a wonderful lunch there, enjoying the Turkey club sandwich with French fries. The sandwich was delicious and quite generous in size. The French fries were excellent as well!
Had a burger and fries today in the bar and it came with cold fries. Bartender got mad about me complaining about the cold fries! He sucks and food...
It was an awesome place to hold the Rebel on the Highway pre-party.

We stayed in the original historic part of the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable and had a beautiful private bathroom. The restaurant had delicious food and great service. The saloon was fun with great food and beverage choices. The bartenders were all professional and fun. The hotel is in the middle of main street and is walking distance to numerous wine tasting rooms and restaurants. I would definitely recommend staying at this hotel!
Waited for over 1 hour for one salad for me and 1 chicken parm for my husband..NEVER GOT! And 2 other parties..one of 4 one of 2 was served and eating when we left..given one excuse after another as to why our dinner was late..this place sucks..won't return and will not recommend AND will tell others about the **** poor service..we are now back at our hotel with no dinner..DO NOT GO HERE!!!! We went for lunch the food was delicious and we ate in the bar ? had fish and chips and a hamburger great meat and french fries, 2 large pieces of fish perfectly prepared.Service: 5/5
I've been coming to Murphy's for a long time and I never took the time to stop and eat at the restaurant. I'm so glad I did because the food is delicious!. I was really impressed. I'll be back!Service: 4/5

I did not stay in the hotel itself so I can not accurately review the amenities.The bar and decor are good.The bar is likely the best bar in murphys. It is the largest that I know of. And the decoration are in line with a historic gold country atmosphere.Drinks are reasonably priced, but not cheap. It's understood you are in a touristy place and the price reflects that. Beers are 6-7 bucks. Mixed drinks 8 or 9, cocktails over 10.The hotel also has a nice outside area.On a side note I was in town for the calaveras County fair. A big weekend in the area. Prices might have been adjusted accordingly.Staff seems good, but in all fairness, my interaction was transactional, I didn't have time to intently examine service levels.This review is one of my poorer ones. I was drunk enough that my normal attention to detail was absent.
