Tog's offered a warm and relaxing space to refuel on a brisk winter day. Interesting artwork, friendly staff, nice range of customers, chairs like my grandparents had. Still trying to work out how to recreate those sweet potato fritters. View all feedback.
What Ozella Kautzer doesn't like about Tog’s Cafe:
I used to love this place. I went in for my weekly coffee and cake at mid morning to be greeted by a slightly aggressive officious woman. She snapped, Did you sign in!!? No good morning, no lovely day just this then 'I need...photo id '!! Have stopped ordering lunch for value this is poor. Now I will stop the rest, sorry can find pleasanter places to sit. The unpretentious single front opens into a long and spacious cafe in an interesting old building. I enjoyed a polenta and Swiss mushroom dish and my husband had gnocchi which tasted delicious. Service was speedy and efficient which was good on a busy Sunday.

We came up to Castlemaine to get a piece of granite and had this cafe recommended . It has a very warm atmosphere as it was a cold grey day outside but lovely and homely inside . I had Chicken and spinach lasagne and the other meal Butter Chicken with two coffees and Rhubarb crumble cake. The meals were lovely and warm especially the curry although $22 seemed a little expensive but it hit the spot on such a chilly day. The dessert was far too dry and not that enjoyable at all.The service was good and the waitess very pleasant although we received the wrong meals to begin with. It was extremely busy and full so maybe to be expected. Total bill $53. All up we enjoyed it but there are maybe a few better cafes around the town rather than this one
Had work in Castlemaine so needed somewhere for lunch. Locals mentioned this place. We (myself and work mates) walked in and were greeted by a not overly friendly lady who led us to a table.Another much more friendly waitress gave us menus and took our drinks order. (No chai lattes available).Menu looked great, lots of nice sounding dishes to select from plus more options on a specials board. I ordered a lamb dish which came with a Greek salad. There were at least five other things I would happily order.Drinks arrived. A 'large' hot drink is only a medium compared to what I am used to. The coffee was nice and hot though.Meals came out fairly quickly, maybe ten minutes. The cafe was reasonably busy too. The food was all well presented and looked good.My lamb was very well cooked. Generous serving size too. Not a huge amount of greenery (lettuce), some tomato which wasnt quite ripe, really nice feta and some (I think?) kalamata olives that were delicious but all still had the pips in. Onion and a yum tzatziki dip on top.Cost was fairly normal too, it was $25 for my drink and salad. Some nice sounding cakes written up. I was too full to squeeze anything else in.A third lady was working the till, she was also very friendly.
Yummy breakfast and the staff were very friendly. The cafe has some interesting art work, is centrally located and the coffee was good.
