Was Crystel Wisoky at Smith & Daughters a mag?
Arrived early for Sunday brunch and was pleasantly surprised by the lovely food we received. Our combination of Spicy Sausage and Beans, Creamy Garlic Mushrooms and Tortilla was a lovely meal to share among friends. It was the first time I'd experienced vegan food and it was great, tasty and nicely prepared and good value too. The staff were friendly and attentive. Highly recommended. View all feedback.
What Ed Mueller dislikes about Smith & Daughters:
As a non vegan I must say the food is excellent. However, customer service needs a bit of work. I arriver early for a 6 pm booking (5.45pm)its pouring rain. I’m told I cannot come in until 6. In the next 5 minutes another 14...people arrive with nowhere to stand but in the rain. Finally when I get in to the restaurant it is obvious that the staff have a bit of a chip on their shoulders. This needs to change. View all feedback.
Visited this restaurant last night with my daughter. Didn't realise it was a tapas-style menu for winter. With a little help from the wonderful staff, we managed to choose enough dishes for the two of us. And the food was just amazing. The dishes sounded like meat-based meals, but of course were vegan. And they were sooooo tasty. Just delicious. I can see why the place was absolutely packed and you need to book ahead. This has been on my wish list as a vegan for some time. So very glad I got to experience it!
We came from bayside to meet our Vegan friends at Smith and Daughters for coffee/Brunch, they had raved about it so we thought we should try it.From the moment we walked in with our toddler we were greated with warm and welcoming smiles. Hubby and I ordered coffees while our friends ordered food. The little one started getting restless sitting at the communal table so they made her a soy babychino and moved us all to a table once one became available. I noticed there wasn't a kids menu or anything my fussy eater would eat so I asked the lovely waitress if I could order off menu just a piece of toast with nuttlex (bubs is dairy intolerant so vegan butter was perfect). I fully expected her to say we couldn't order off menu as most cafes we have been to aren't accommodating on a busy weekend. She went off to the kitchen and bought out a piece of toast for bubs with a smile saying it was no trouble. Our little one loved getting high fives and lots of attention each time a staff member walked past us. They were so attentive and bought her another baby chino and toast when they saw she had finished. Even when she started to get restless and cranky around nap time we were never made to feel unwelcome or uncomfortable.I have never left a cafe feeling so astonished by the whole experience. As a parent I have never felt so welcome at a young and hip cafe. Thanks so much ladies for an amazing experience
We booked ahead and when we arrived the table wasn't quite ready so we took a seat at the bar. The venue is great; like an old warehouse with cavernous ceilings and a great sense of space. We were a table of four, and between us we ordered a four entrees and five mainsThe flavours of some of the dishes were good, the tuna entree for instance was delicious and hard to distinguish from the real thing. The salt cod fritters were good, as was the tortilla. The mains we ordered were all ok, but nothing amazing in my opinion. Each dish was pretty oily and heavy and couldn't be described as fresh tasting! One dish we really weren't fond of was the Seafood Stew. Whilst some of the flavours did mimic actual seafood it was too overpowering and just too fishy!I guess my biggest gripe about the restaurant is that they just put too much emphasis on trying to copy the tastes and textures of actual fish, meat and dairy based dishes. I appreciate the creativity used to re-create a fish stew for example, but really with so many wonderful vegetables and plant products available I think they should really focus on creating dishes to be themselves instead of average imitations.I didn't mind the restaurant overall but I wouldn't rush back!
My mates and I (you may remember us as the 3 guys with the funky t-shirts! came by this past Sunday, and what an experience it was! Every single dish we tried was absolutely fantastic. Honestly, there wasn’t a single dish we didn’t enjoy, which was such a pleasant surprise. The staff were incredibly welcoming and made us feel at home. Huge shoutout to them for being so kind and attentive. We had such a great time that we’re already planning our return. Next time, we’ll be bringing t-shirts for the team as well. Food, service, and value: all 5 stars! The only reason I’m giving 4 stars for atmosphere is because it was a tad chilly. Thank you for making our Sunday so memorable!
