Excellency. In one word. Fish at its best. A unique experience of freshness! Seafood humble master, that’s wat it is! Went there three times last month with wife and best friends, its time topped expectations. And reasoning, cost depending. A spot in our top priority...list! View all feedback.
What Aidan Wiegand doesn't like about Argo Fishop:
This food was revolting. Unfortunately, we were served under-cooked rockling, soggy chips and poor quality calamari. We have been regular customers and were happy to provide feedback in hope of a better meal next time. Sadly, we received a rude and abusive response from the manager who completely dismissed our feedback and referred to "weird callers". Best fish restaurant in MelbourneLove the specials and the classic fish and chipsGreat wine and beer selection.
I'm a regular diner here and have never been let down. Great grilled fish, awesome chips and a good range of salads. Always fresher and crisper if you eat in.
We had takeaway. We ate a little and then we threw it away. Soggy batter and mushy fish. Crazy. They should spend a few hours learning to cook fish.
I have visited twice before for the special lunch deal - fish, chips and salad for $10.00 - great value with fresh seafood and worth every cent. Service was fast and efficient, with a friendly smile. We sat outside in the courtyard where it was quiet. It was very pleasant indeed.I look forward to returning with friends for dinner soon.
This new and expanding fish restaurant has some pretty heavy-weight competition in the Fitzroy/Carlton inner city areas and so needs to be serving the kind of food that people spending quite a bit of money will want to eat. For many customers, fish is less likely have appeal if it is covered in batter and overlaid with chips, with a very modest salad on the side. This is what my companion and I had at Argo in Queens Parade Clifton Hill, now on two occasions, and it just doesnt cut it. The owners have taken over an adjoining shop to expand the seating areas but they are taking a risk with the current menus, on taste and price. Punters should ask for grilled, cut the salt, and develop a more extended range of salads. One final irritation is a self-opening front door - opens when anyone outside walks past it closely enough. I would give this about three stars, the owners are very keen, friendly and attentive. It can work much better.
