Menu

The menu of Philippe from Melbourne comprises about 74 different courses and drinks. On average you pay about A$50 for a dish / drink.

Philippe is a French restaurant that promises a gastro epic evening but falls short of expectations for many diners. The limited and somewhat repetitive menu, along with a confusing wine list, leave patrons feeling uninspired. The food is described as average, with some dishes lacking flavor and creativity. Despite some positive experiences with the food and service, such as excellent dishes and attentive staff, there are also instances of long wait times and feeling ignored. On the other hand, the classic venue offers a refined dining experience with classic dishes and a relaxed ambiance. Some highlights mentioned include fantastic oysters and exceptional rotisserie chicken. For those seeking a more unique dining experience, the restaurant also offers themed dinners with multiple courses and matched wines. In conclusion, Philippe may not fully live up to its promise of a French gastronomic experience, but it still offers a pleasant atmosphere and some standout dishes worth trying.

Was ProfPinkyLunchLab at Philippe a mag?
My score 4.5 stars. J I had the set lunch here. Nice setting, laid back but attentive service. We had Oysters nice. French Onion soup so rich yummy (there was some soup amongst all the cheese). Crispy skin Ocean trout with a red wine sauce (J) great sauce really worked! Confit duck leg I really enjoyed it. Broccolini w Goats Cheese almond crumble was fab! Chapoutier wine included was fine. Loved the Creme Brulee, the... View all feedback.

What John W dislikes about Philippe:
Went along thinking it would be a gastro epic evening. The menu was disappointing very limited and sort of repetitive. Wine list sort of confusing man wines, many good wines, and many, especially French, that i am sure are excellent, but not names that most of us would be familiar with. But we did have an excellent GSM from southern Rhone. Steak was good, not great. However, I think herself did fare better than I did... View all feedback.

Service is fantastic and the food is just out of this world!!! I ordered 4 meals and also had a taste of my partners and each dish was 10/10. It's not often a restaurant can get 5 star reviews from me, will recommend this place to anyone and everyone!! Bravo Phillipe

I've been following Chef Phillipe around Melbourne since the early 90's and have never been disappointed by his food, charm and service team. His longevity in the food scene is testament to his love of fine food and hospitality and it shows in every bite of every dish. Highly recommended!!

I've been busting to get here since it opened. The wait and anticipation was well rewarded with the service and food. The staff were all lovely and looked after our group of six flawlessly. Then there was the food. Entrees of Wagyu tartare, escargots, charcuterie were all delicious with red Burgundy. Of course, rotisserie chicken was ordered. Along with duck porterhouse and rib eye. All were happy, especially me who got to sample a few dishes of other peoples plates. Get there!

Food was nice but the service was below average. Our table felt like we were in the way or a problem opposed to ensuring we were comfortable and having a good time. We were often left with empty wine glasses and no drinks and also finished plates that needed to be cleared. We would have happily spent more money on food and wine but the customer service was below average and has left a below average taste in our mouth. Wouldn't rush back in a hurry.
