Miyako is a fantastic dining option for those looking for a pre or post-show meal near the Arts Centre. The location offers beautiful views of the Yarra River and the city skyline. The food is fresh and well-prepared, with standout dishes like the seafood paper hot pot and soft shell crab. The service is quick and accommodating, especially for those on a tight schedule before a show. The teppanyaki experience is highly recommended for a fun and interactive meal, with skilled chefs like Marlin providing entertainment along with delicious food. While some diners have experienced loud and disruptive groups, overall Miyako offers a consistently enjoyable experience with friendly service and stunning views. The prices can be a bit on the higher side, especially for dinner, but the quality of the food and service make it worth the cost, making it a great spot for a special occasion or a family dinner. Overall, Miyako is a top choice for a memorable Japanese dining experience in Southbank.

great for dinner pre or post show at the Arts Centre. If you can get a table on the window its a lovely view of the Yarra and the city. the food is fresh and very well prepared, and the service is always quick - if you let them know you need to get to a show they will make sure you are finished in time. My gorgeous hubby surprised me with an evening out at the theatre (Hello Dolly!), so arranged for an early dinner prior to the show.We arrived at Miyako about 10 minutes before our reservation (which we soon discovered was when the restaurant opened), so there was about 15-20 people waiting at the doors by the time it opened. Once we were finally led to our table, we didn't need to wait much longer. We ordered the Seafood Platter to share which was tasty, fresh and a reasonable size for sharing. Service was prompt and pleasant even though the restaurant was full and bustling with noise and activity. The most pleasant thing at the end of our meal was the price... very reasonable for what we received. Very happy, a recommended Japanese restaurant if you ever find yourself in Southbank.
Been going here for years. Always a lovely experience. Food is consistently good, service is friendly and efficient and the views from both inside the restaurant and the balcony are beautiful. A great quick pre-theatre dinner if you're off to see a show at the Arts Centre.
Couldn't fault our experience at Miyako tonight. Loved the seafood paper hot pot, pork skewer, and soft shell crab. We had a great view looking across the river to Flinders Street station. Service was good.
Looking at the web-site for Miyako we saw the pre-theatre option which is a choice of 4 bento boxesI had the salmon and dining partner had the beef.
