I was recommended to go and have a feed and a beer at this little bar by some good friends. They told me Amanda was amazing. I travelled 4 hours and made a bee line. Amanda was not working......until later and she was great. Meanwhile I was looked after by Denise and I have never come across a more genuine, lovely caring individual with a sense of humor to boot. What an asset to the business. ❤️❤️I had a great time, I think maybe Kate was the owner and also extremely friendly and hospitable. Made some friends and will be back!!!Tomorrow in fact ❤️It is so nice to come for a visit to the "big smoke" and meet such genuine people.
Traditional Scottish black pudding, haggis, square sausage and potato scones. Staff are very friendly - what you would expect from Scots. Although this is tucked away in Highlander Lane, between Flinders, Kings and Flinders Lane get there early if you want a table.
In a nutshell it was a really pleasant experience. The staff, in our case, a Scottish (lass) lady behind the bar was super friendly and bubbly and welcoming. The accent helped too!! Knowledgeable about the food AND the beers!Food...Fat B@stard (getting past tripadvisor filter sorry) and the Braveheart followed by the Marsbar dessert. Both burgers were delicious but the Braveheart with the Haggis was absolutely spot on!! Had a zingy spice to it that was hard to go past. Chips...thin but still nice.Decor was a bit dated but not too bad to look past this.Realistically the only issue we had was there was no roaring fireplace...or warm as far as temperature in the room. Given it was a cold winters day we visited this was the only thing we found lacking.Otherwise a great place to relax in if you don't want a bustling crowd. Only reason for 4 star!
Highlander is certainly pumping on a Friday for after works drinks. So pumping that if you come here for a casual bite and drink, you might struggle to find somewhere to sit. But once those suits and business people skid-addle, it is a nice place to be. It's dark, very dimly lit with a few tealights on tables. The floor is sticky, that's to be expected. It's cool though, with feels of a pub in the U.K. that you want to visit. Despite the strong recommendations of how good their burgers are, we opted for more of a share meal, ordering the Mac N Cheese Balls and Panko Chicken. The cocktails were good, the food was filling. It was exactly what we would expect to eat, a hearty savory meal paired with cocktails. It's probably one of those venues that's lunch time- you eat and evening time- you drink. There's nothing wrong with that. Do: Come here for their lunch specials. A Burger and a beer for $15- YES! Do: Plan a Happy Hour here, every single weekday from 5-7pm. Do: Sign up to be part of their Highlander Klan. The perks are worth it!
I had a fantastic experience at this restaurant! The staff were incredibly friendly and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. The cocktails were delicious and the atmosphere was cool and relaxed, perfect for unwinding after work. Located in a hidden laneway, Highlander Lane is a trendy bar with a menu that offers some unique twists to try. There are plenty of drink and food specials to choose from and a range of professionals and other relaxed patrons from the surrounding offices. It's a great spot to meet up with friends of all ages. I stumbled upon this gem while traveling to Melbourne and it was definitely a happy discovery.
