Food was fantastic. Noisy restaurant but will definitely recommend for the food
First visit to Bluetrain and I will go back. The food was great! The staff were frienly, we attended an early seating at 5.45 midweek before a show and it was lovely and quiet although half full restaurant so I could still talk to my friends over the table which was nice. Recommend eating here, the view over the Yarra is good also even though you are inside and there is no outside seating
I was surprised Bluetrain was still here at Southgate I used to go there back in the day it was a sister restaurant to Automatic at Crown, which I think has long gone. But ... I think this is not the same Bluetrain. I think the old one was down one level and had a balcony. Anyway ... this new Bluetrain has a nice fitout with lovely views of the city through the big windows (but no balcony ... well, a single tiny one with just bar stools). The staff were lovely, but the food while still great just wasn't all quite as good as the food we'd had a few doors down at Hop Haus the night before. The Mac and cheese croquettes were lovely. And the roasted cauliflower was tasty. But the squid and saganaki were just OK. Kids crumbed tenders were a little plain tasting which may be intended (because kids). But the same option the night before was really, really good (and liked by the kids more). Nice place, and heaps of other food on offer which looked sounded great might go back and try it one day. But if you're at Southgate on a warm evening, the lower level option with a deck is slightly better. Always fantastic. dined here since the 90s. good selection of dishes and good service
Tired and living off its central location on the Southbank. The head waiter was rude and confrontational when advised that the chips were refried and the fish batter was overly greasy. Don’t ask if you don’t want to hear what customers say! Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $40–60 Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3
