This place could have the best value for Japanese food on the island. Most options are under $15 and everything I had is fresh and tasty. Personal favorites are the special Bento (sold early!, the Chirashi seafood don, and the fried chicken. Service is friendly. Order ahead as it is a small place and large orders can take a while. This is some best japanese cuisine I have ever eaten in hawaii. Service was amazing and honestly I give this place a 10/10Food: 5/5
Excellent special bento!! Only take out and delicious. They have a bunch of side dish offers. All reasonably priced too.
The once hole in the wall Japanese eatery has transformed into a made when ordered, takeout bento shop with authentic Japanese flavor.First, having had numerous requests from mainland yeeps to translate Japanese ingredients to their western counterpart, here goes. I promise I didn 't hit my head and turn into a banana. The weekly Special Bento offers a cross section of their entire menu and sides. The perfect way to taste the flavors; light and slightly sweet hailing from the Kansai region of Japan. A very flavorful nishime (burdock, lotus root, dasheen, konjac, bamboo shoots simmered in a kelp soy sugar broth), simmered pumpkin, and shirae (ground sesame seeds, tofu, soy bean flour, and cooked watercress). Decent quality, agreeably seasoned sushi rice with reasonably fresh fish (except the ahi) used in both nigiri and mini chirashi. The ahi had a slight off, fishy taste not found in any of the other seafood.Very good, properly cooked ahi katsu and solid miso butterfish that is actually the even more flavorful gindara (sablefish) versus a black cod. Finally, if available, grab a pack of goma dango (red bean paste filled, deep fried mochi balls). Good eats.Prices are very reasonable ranging between $12 $18.Note: This is a two person operation. Call in your order in advance. Don 't be shocked when they answer in Japanese. Follow on IG for weekly specials. It may not be the most well known bento spot. It may not be the easiest to get to. The effort will satisfy.
Blown away by the special bento box at this small mom and pop shop! We called in the order for lunch, picked up and brought to eat by the beach. Highly recommend!
Have you ever seen a beautiful bento? Just take a look at my photo! I was seeking a bento lunch and Yelp led me straight to this little hole in the wall off of Kalakaua Ave. At first I was hesitant, as I always associate Kalakaua with Waikiki and parking is horrendous there, however this place is closer to Ala Moana. The bento I got is called Special Bento and it sure was special! For just $16.50, I got a bento that had 9 small compartments with various items in it. I wish I could tell you all the items but they didn 't list them on the menu. Some were familiar foods like sushi, sashimi, salmon, unagi, chicken, fruit, etc. Others were not as familiar, but still very tasty! It also came with miso soup. This is a take out only place (at least it is as of Jan. 2023). I called my order in and it was ready in 15 min. Parking is on the left side of their place. Just drive down the narrow way and you 'll see parking in the back. Service was outstanding. The lady who gave me my bento was very sweet and kind.In addition to the Special Bento, they have about 10 lunch bento options, 10 dinner bento options and a few appetizers. Lunch is from 11 1:30 and dinner is 5 8, Tues Sat. They 're closed on Sun Mon.Get your yummy bentos here, folks!
