The worst food I have tasted in years, flavorless food, I ordered noodles with vegetables that were overcooked, chicken in the fried rice with chicken was tough and greasy. I called to tell them this and the lady was rude, I asked for my money back and she was angry. As far as I know, I am the customer and if I believe something is wrong with what I have paid for, I have the right to get my money back. I do not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Please avoid them at all costs for your own sake and your wallet.

A good Chinese café in the true sense of the word, characterized by basic decoration with some touches that add charm to the dining experience. It was a Sunday afternoon in June and I was in the mood for some Chinese food. I had been to Chan's a few years ago and remember it being great at what they do. It consists of a main room, where you pay at the counter at the end of the room, take your seat, and dishes come out when they are ready. The prices are surprisingly low. I had a brilliantly basic but perfectly tasty seafood dish and fun crispy fried noodles for a fiver, along with a cup of Chinese tea for 50p, and some shrimp skewers with satay sauce for four pounds. Altogether it came to 10 pounds. Incredible. The service is fast and there is a constant stream of delivery riders coming in to pick up orders for those who prefer not to come in person, but it's clear that value and basic quality are top priority here. And there is certainly a lot of competition as this street is packed with oriental restaurants and supermarkets. There is a good variety of dishes to try but remember that it's their basic Chinese dishes that are all cooked competently. Since Chan's is unlicensed, you can also bring your own alcoholic drinks if you wish. Wonderful.

I used to own a recording studio in Clapton until 2006, and we would always order food from Chans for delivery or dine in. The food was consistently good. However, when I visited earlier this month (March 2015) for the first time in years, I was extremely disappointed. I ordered hot and sour soup followed by seafood ho fun. The hot and sour soup looked like the traditional dish, but unfortunately did not taste like it. The seafood ho fun was served moments after the soup and was cold by the time I finished the soup. Additionally, the dish was bland and even contained bean sprouts which were unexpected. When I requested chilli oil to enhance the flavor, I was told it would cost 20 pence, which I found unusual as I have never been charged for chilli oil at any Chinese restaurant I have visited in the past 40+ years. Overall, a disappointing experience and I do not plan on returning to Chans in the future.
