Mason Jar Kitchen - Eagan
Mason Jar Kitchen
Description
Charming, community-focused bistro in the Twin Cities offers house-baked breads, standout fish & chips, inventive breakfast items and a lively bar with friendly staff and owner interaction. Weekly deals, rewards and attentive bartenders make it a local favorite; atmosphere is cozy—mason jars, flannel and a good soundtrack. Execution can be uneven—undersalted dips, scant poutine, occasional undercooked fish—and a billing incident raised concerns about staff training and inclusivity despite generally warm service.

Feedback
We addressed the issue politely, and the manager came over to apologize. He offered to cover our meals, which seemed like a nice gesture. However, when the bill arrived, we were charged for half of the meal. When I inquired about this, I was told that they were only comping my girlfriend and her son, assuming I wasn't his parent. This left me feeling confused and hurt, as it seemed like a misunderstanding rooted in our identity as a lesbian interracial couple, rather than being recognized as a family.
Unfortunately, the food here is odd. I understand wanting to do a twist on a classic, but the poutine our table ordered had 4 tater tots for the entire dish. Correct me if I’m wrong, but poutine usually has a significant potato component. Additionally, the choice of bread served with the spinach dip had a flavor that did not complement the dip, and the dip itself was quite undersalted. Our calamari was fine, but the sauce tasted like it came out of a jar. Service was nothing to write home about, but the atmosphere is nice.
Great dining spot for a local breakfast, brunch, or lunch, complete with a bar and a delightful dessert counter.
