Papa Nick - Denison
Papa Nick
Description
A standout dining spot in Sherman, this recently renovated restaurant pairs refined steakhouse fare with comforting Italian touches. Clean, polished interiors and a relaxing backyard view complement attentive, friendly service and reasonable prices. Highlights include generous steaks, lobster, standout calamari, and customizable pasta, making it ideal for family gatherings and special occasions. Critics note occasional oversalty dishes, inconsistent steak doneness, and a limited selection of sides, but overall it remains a beloved local gem worth returning to.

The Positive: The service was excellent! Our server, Margaret, was fantastic, and Manuel, the host, was extremely helpful and friendly in arranging our group's reservation. The restaurant is very clean and appears to have been recently renovated. The prices are quite reasonable. The calamari is out of this world—I’ve never tasted calamari with such incredible flavor. Everyone ordered steaks, but one was overcooked and dry. The rest of the food was good, though. Given the multiple reviews mentioning overcooked steaks, it would be wise for management to listen to customers and consider making some kitchen adjustments.
We started with bruschetta. The bread was a little thickly sliced, but it was homemade and delicious. I ordered the Papa's pasta while my husband went for the steak. We both had salads as well. My pasta was fantastic; I got to choose my noodles (I followed Ado's recommendation and went with penne) and it came with a red sauce, chicken, and garlic bread. The steak was high-quality beef, cooked to a perfect medium rare. We didn’t stick around for dessert this time, but we’re definitely looking forward to returning soon to try it!
Prime rib very good, enjoyed fried mushrooms and fried green tomatoes. Our waitress was splendid. Relaxing backyard view through large windows. Decor bare. Everything was tasty but wish they had a larger selection of sides with items such as squash or broccoli/rice casseroles, black eyed peas, etc. Entire staff was very friendly. Wife and I enjoyed a relaxed meal and will return.
Papa Nick is a great restaurant which I hope has the opportunity to open when all of the pandemic has been resolved. It is a gem for Sherman who until Papa Nick opened had no restaurant of this class. The food was fantastic with some of the best and generous cuts of steak. Their ribeye cut was phenomenal. I look forward to seeing them soon!
