We went to The Blue Anchor for a family dinner last night. It was a lovely evening to sit on the terrace. Is The Blue Anchor under new ownership? We noticed a significant difference in the portion sizes - they seemed to be much smaller! We were all still hungry, including my 7-year-old daughter who devoured her children's poutine in no time and then ended up eating from my wife's plate. We were disappointed that the children's meal did not include a drink and dessert, as is common in other restaurants. A can of pop cost $3.50, and they should include this information on the children's menu. We only realized this after receiving the bill. My 9-year-old son ordered "chicken fingers," which should actually be called "chicken slivers." He asked to replace the fries with a Caesar salad, which was an extra $3.50. My 19-year-old son ordered the beef brisket poutine, which came in such a small bowl that it felt more like a side dish. My wife and I ordered the fish and chips, which seemed to have much smaller and less meaty portions compared to what we remembered. I found a picture of the fish and chips from 2016, and it was definitely a larger portion. I understand that menu prices have increased due to inflation, but reducing the portion sizes makes it more difficult for families to enjoy a nice meal without leaving hungry. We have had better fish and chips at other restaurants. The bill was unexpectedly high, so I left an extra 20% for the drinks. The waitress was friendly, but it seemed like the issue was with the kitchen. We will not be returning to The Blue Anchor.
I visited this restaurant for the first time and was pleasantly surprised by its wonderful location right near the Saint Lawrence River. The seafood salad roll was absolutely delicious. The service was quick and friendly. Overall, a fantastic dining experience in Cornwall.
This was a beautiful sunny day and perfect deck-weather to eat outdoors. So we were told about a 20-minute waiting period, but this place is worth every minute of waiting. we came before the 20 minutes were up. actually we waited. on the bar. sat the bill and got our seats in the shadow with a beautiful brise from the west. I had a guinness beer, my wife had a chardonnay. I ordered a Cajun black fish, with roasted garnel, with fries and an salate. my wife had a fish chip. both meals were excellent and filled. The Cajun fish was well seasoned, and the fish and chips are always great here. service was as usual and polite. we stop this when we are in the opposite, just a great place to eat.
I have been coming to this restaurant for years! It's a lovely 70km motorcycle ride down old Highway 2 from the West Island of Montreal for us. They have a spacious patio with plenty of tables, and we have rarely had to wait for a seat (even during peak summer weekends). The food is fresh and reasonably priced, with the exception of the perch rolls which tend to be expensive. I usually opt for the chicken wing platter, which comes with fries and a Caesar salad, a nice touch compared to having to order the salad separately. The fish and chips are always delicious, and the wraps are tasty as well. Overall, it's a great summer destination with a nice view and motorcycle-friendly parking. In the winter, the inside is cozy with a pub-style atmosphere.
Went for a family dinner last night. Gorgeous night for sitting at the patio. Is the blue anchor under new ownership? We noticed a big difference in the portions, they seemed to be reduced significantly! We all left hungry, including my 7year old daughter, who...eats like a bird, she finished her kids poutine in no time and was picking the fries from my wife’s plate. Disappointed that the kids meal doesn’t include a drink and dessert, like every other restaurant. A can of pop costs $3.50. You Should definitely hand out a kids menu and mention this on it. We only discovered this after getting the bill. My 9yr old son ordered “chicken fingers” should be called “chicken slivers” He asked to substitute Caesar salad instead of fries, that was an extra $3.50 My 19 year old son ordered the beef brisket poutine. It came in such a small bowl that I can only describe it as a “side dish” My wife and I ordered the large fish and chips. I remember the fish being quite bigger and meatier. I found an image of the fish and chips from 2016. I’d say they reduced the portion to almost 1/2. Less meat more breading. I understand due to inflation, menu prices have gone up, but with the portions reduced. It just makes it that much harder to want to bring the family out for a nice meal, only the leave hangry. Sorry Blue Anchor but we had better fish and chips at Schnitzel’s. Needless to say the bill was astronomical! I still gave 20% tip. Waitress was friendly. Only screw up was from the kitchen. Definitely won’t be back.
