The staff is friendly and recognize me by face and name, even though it's a chain location in a busy part of Cambridge. I usually order the chicken salad with American cheese, lettuce, and onions. I prefer to order ahead, but if you order in person, the line moves very quickly. The Kendall Square area is filled with 'artisanal' and 'modern' dining options, but while Al's may not be groundbreaking, it is still a fantastic deli that serves great, affordable deli food.

However, I had a surprising exp... read more Their eggplant chicken sub never disappoints—it's always delicious! I find myself getting a hot sub from them nearly every week. However, I had a surprising experience today when I went to pick up my online order. Instead of handing me my wrapped sandwich at the counter, the staff member tossed it to me underhand from where she was standing. I understand that they get quite busy during lunchtime, but from a customer service perspective, that really caught me off guard. What if I hadn't caught it, or if the sandwich had been messed up from being tossed? Would they have remade it without issue? This was an unexpected moment for me, and I believe it's something that should be avoided in the future.

However, you can always grab a sub and enjoy it outside in the lawn chairs at Tech Square.
