Contribute FeedbackAkai Ryu in Cambridge offers a unique dining experience with rotating conveyor belts of small plates, delicious sushi, and authentic shabu shabu hot pot. The atmosphere is lively with freebies, games, and a variety of soup bases and ingredients to choose from. The manager, Allan, ensures a welcoming environment, while the owner, Bill, goes above and beyond to make guests feel appreciated. Despite a less than stellar experience with a condescending waiter, Akai Ryu remains a highly recommended spot with fresh ingredients, ample parking, and convenient location near Porter Square. It's a must-visit for those looking for a fun and delicious dining experience.
The staff were incredibly welcoming and helpful. I had never dined at a place like this before, with sushi being served. The waitress was very friendly and patient, providing guidance on how to best enjoy the food. I had never experienced a hot plate in the middle of the table before, where we could dip various foods into a shared soup pan. It was a fun and unique dining experience. We will definitely be returning as it was a novel way of eating for us.
Good service and lots of choices Shabu Shabu is Japanese hot pot, worth a try.
Great atmosphere. Food was fresh. I parked across the street from the Galleria on Sunday. Huge restaurant. Good for big parties.
First time here was with a group of 5 women. One did sushi rolls while the rest of us got the hot pot combos. We were able to get four different broths since the pots were split. The server was really nice and helpful, especially since we crowded the table with all the dishes! Overall, good experience and convienent since it's right by the Porter Sq T stop and they do have their own parking lot.
Shabu-Shabu is our new comfort food! I cook from scratch pretty much every day, so the thought of going out to a restaurant where I have to cook my own food is not very appealing. However, I will make an exception for Shabu-Shabu--and Akai Ryu, because the food is that good! This was our 3rd visit, and after trying 3 different broth types, the Korean bone broth is by far our favorite. Bill, the owner is one of the kindest, warm and generous souls that you will ever meet! For us, we don't care how good the food is at a restaurant; if the owner or waitstaff are not nice, we will never go back.
