Alloy - Calgary
Alloy
Description
Alloy received mixed reviews about their service and food quality. Some praised the delicious dishes and excellent service, while others were disappointed with the slow service and food quality. The venue itself was appreciated by many, despite the off-putting exterior. The cost was considered high, but many felt it was worth it for the quality of service and food. While some dishes exceeded expectations, others were dry or lacked in portion size. Overall, Alloy is a mixed bag, with highlights and disappointments, making it a hit or miss dining experience for patrons.

First time yesterday and everything we ordered was perfect. I really enjoyed the Pumpkin Soup, Duck Dumplings, Oysters and Beet Salad. The Arctic Char and Chicken Supreme were tasty. Quality not Quantity is key and it was Quality. I also liked that we recieved complimentary Hummus/Bread to stave off the initial hunger so we could really enjoy the flavors. My first visit to Alloy and it will not be my last. The service and our server was absolutely spot on. The food was superb and I can't wait to go again to try something new. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Lunch Price per person: $30–40
Pretty average for an expensive restaurant. I had chicken mole and it was instantly forgettable. Mole is often a thick chocolate complex spicy sauce but this was thin and kinda salsa-like with just two slices off a chicken breast. The desert was another disappointment. Tiramisu lady fingers had no hint of a good coffee soaked chocolate treat. Your experience may vary.
The service was a bit slow and our waiter wasn't very friendly at first, but he did warm up eventually. We enjoyed the truffle mushroom gnocchi, scallops, and foie gras pate. However, we were not impressed with the ahi tuna nachos as there wasn't enough tuna and it was overpowered by tomatoes. There was also not enough guacamole for three people to share. The marinaded olives were a hit though, even for someone who doesn't usually like olives. Overall, the experience was enjoyable but not enough to make me want to return quickly.
Great restaurant! We were lucky enough to get a table on their patio close to the fountain and brook. Their menu is excellent, pork tenderloin, steelhead trout, beef short ribs etc. They offer a tempura shrimp dish as an appetizer, and I have had that before, but on this hot night I chose the watermelon salad which was perfect. Whether a business lunch, dinner or a romantic evening out, Alloy is one of my favorites in Calgary.
