Slow, slower, unattentive, expensive, I had to even pay to feed the numerous flies who constantly sat in my hair and ears and bugged me. Yuck!
We were heading for le crabe- marteau a few doors up; but our bus driver recommended this place as better value and having their own boat. We’re glad we took her advice. Le Crabe..looked a scruffy place and let’s face it you don’t cook crab as such; you boil it. Freshness is all. And given the crab has probably followed us from Devon, what was the point? Le Maison place is a little like a tardis with a smartly decorated upstairs and several smart side rooms. A lovely spot overlooking the water. We had their €22 entre/plat menu and it was superb. Substantial amuse-bouche too. We started with entre de jour, a lovely fish mousse-based salad., served with very fresh bread. Followed by mixed grilled fish of the day. Three sizeable fillets each and again beautifully cooked. Wines very fairly priced and service excellent. We had a wonderful lunch and highly recommend this place.
We arrived without reservation for dinner, so we had to sit outside on the terrace. We were afraid that it would be too chilly but the terrace was shielded with a tent from the cold wind, so we went for it. Although later on the evening it did get a bit too cold to my liking. We sat close to the soft ice vending machine on the outside, which made a rather unpleasant noise now and then, but besides that we were happy to have conquered a table. La Maison de l'Ocean offers some fixed menus, which in France are most of the time value for money. And yes, my seafood platter as a first course was very, very impressive. I could hardly believe this was a starter! I enjoyed this platter a lot and would have had no complaints if this would have been the end of my meal, but there were two more courses to follow. The main course, consisting of three different kinds of fish, was a bit mediocre in comparison to the outstanding starter. And the crème brûlée was also a bit disappointing. Normally one of my favorite desserts if done right. The service was ok, but the waiter needed to be reminded to bring me my tea. As a whole, this dinner was definitely value for money, both starters were excellent. When visiting La Maison de l'Ocean, I recommend to just stick to the seafood platter. And don't forget to book a table in advance.
Try to book at this restaurant and you’ll be enjoy a super seafood: great dishes with any kind of fish will arrive on your table!Incredible composition like sculpture but made of a not specified number of crustaceans and fish.Oyster and crab or sardines if you want something smaller and special too.Wines and desserts as you desire
