Jack's Local Station
Description
Charming, dog‑friendly bistro known for made‑to‑order plates, standout small bites like baked brie, seafood dip and generous charcuterie, plus inventive cocktails. The relaxed indoor/outdoor vibe is perfect for date nights and people‑watching, but experiences vary: some guests praise attentive staff while others report long waits, missed service and uneven dish execution. Prices lean high for certain seafood items, and same‑day or weekend reservations aren’t accepted. Parking exists but can be tricky—great for a leisurely evening if you’re prepared for potential delays.

The indoor seating included a bar area that opened up to the patio and the quaint downtown main street. We ended up in a cozy little back room, which was perfectly fine. We ordered a burger, accompanied by their homemade chips. The burger was good—not extraordinary, but satisfying and tasty at a reasonable price. We also tried a salad that had green apples, nuts, and bleu cheese. While it was fresh and enjoyable, it lacked a little pizzazz—perhaps a different dressing could have elevated it. Since there wasn't a kids’ menu, my picky eater opted for the $13 chicken finger plate, and WOW, we were not prepared for such a generous serving of deliciousness! The chicken was incredibly light, featuring a thin batter that wasn’t overly fried. It was flaky, crispy, and incredibly moist, paired with a tasty honey mustard sauce. The portion was so big that we all got to share, and we loved it so much that we ordered another batch to take home for dinner! We also tried the mashed potatoes as a side, which were just okay—slightly dry and smaller in portion. Nonetheless, we would definitely return just for the chicken and to explore other menu items, all while enjoying a seat on their sunny front patio. The cocktails also looked enticing! We’re thrilled to have discovered this gem off the highway. It’s worth the stop, and the little downtown area is quite cute. The service was good, ingredients were fresh, quality was solid, and prices were fair. Don't miss out on the chicken!
Now, I hope this doesn’t come off as overly critical, but given the high prices, I expected more. The food itself had some highlights and low points. The Brie was absolutely amazing, and I would consider returning just for that. However, the lobster roll was quite small and very dry with little flavor, especially for $35. I ordered the stuffed pork chop, which was delicious, but the bottom half was burnt to the point where I couldn't even cut it. Overall, I was disappointed with the quality of the food, especially considering the prices. I wouldn't go back unless they lowered the prices or improved the overall quality. It’s a shame because it really is a cute little spot.
I've eaten at this restaurant several times, and to be honest, I wasn't too impressed initially; it seemed pretty average. However, my most recent visit was surprisingly good. I ordered the artichoke chicken with quinoa, and the chicken was tender and full of flavor. We also enjoyed a few glasses of wine. For dessert, we tried the fried cheesecake. It was tasty, but I wasn't a fan of it being wrapped in a wonton or tortilla; it was a bit overpowering. It was definitely rich and probably packed with calories! I didn't take any photos of the meal, but I did snap a pic of the dessert. I also noticed that Yelp highlighted some of my previous dishes from earlier visits. If they keep up this quality, I might just become a regular!
The husband and I decided to have a quick celebratory dinner after crushing one of our goals. We always drive by this place and say we're gonna try it but never do. So it was the day! The ambiance is cute and relaxing. It makes me want to have a sweet fruit sangria and sit back and people/car watch. It is dog friendly so I was able to bring my pup which is a huge plus. The service was great! Nothing that stood out but our waitress did a good job. The food is wonderful. The Cesar salad is filled with dressing, the cold shrimp tacos are more of a ceviche style with sour cream on the side and the seafood dip was the best thing. Creamy, cheesy and so flavorful with crispy cheese crusted pita pieces. Next time we're trying the $45 charcuterie board. We saw many tables get it and it was a great portion for the price.
The Cali fish taco was more like a wet burrito, but I liked the pickled salad. It could've been more flavourful- I asked for it blackened as per the server's recommendation but it still came fried. The chips also should've been hit with some sea salt. The tropical drink was way too sweet for my taste. There seemed to be many servers, but it still took about 15 minutes to get even a beer at the table. I want to come back but would try something else. Would also try and be seated outside as the flies were absolutely swarming on this summer evening.
