Was Liz Y at Sumo Roll a mag?
Been to this place twice now. Had the salmon sumo burrito both times. So delicious. I can't wait to go again and try a new type of sushi burrito. Also, service is super kind and attentive.Food: 5/5 View all feedback.
What Marcus C dislikes about Sumo Roll:
Sumo Roll is one of the closer sushi restaurants to UC Berkeley. I decided to get take out for my friend and I, and ordered their Dragon Roll and Salmon Set. I ordered both for dine-in previously, and expected the same quality. When I came home, I quickly realized that the Salmon Set was not as described on the menu. It was suppose to come with salmon belly; however, it seemed to be substituted with eel, which I did... View all feedback.

Without a doubt, this is our favorite sushi spot. The owners are incredibly kind and you feel well looked after. We initially tried their delicious sushi burritos for takeout, but now we dine in the restaurant to enjoy the full experience. Today we tried the Mexico City roll and it was amazing. The fish was so fresh, it was like eating butter. The house salad is excellent and their shrimp tempura udon left us feeling satisfied and content. Finding parking can be a challenge, but that's to be expected. Please support this restaurant, as I want to be able to dine here every two weeks. Enjoy!
I really enjoyed the food! It was my first time trying a sushi burrito, and I'm glad I tried it at this restaurant.
I tried the unagi roll and tobiko at this restaurant and was impressed with the high quality of the ingredients. In my opinion, the Sumo roll is much better than the Kirala roll.
Whenever I come to Sumo Roll, I can expect to feel really satisfied after. Generally, when it comes to sushi, I get a bit apprehensive about getting a special roll because it never feels like a roll is enough food to fill me up, especially with the prices. That's not the case with Sumo Roll! I love their Lion King roll, and it's always so massive that I leave feeling super full. The ratio of rice to filling is also great; it's stuffed to the point that I have a hard time getting a slice into my mouth!Service is always great too. The server is really sweet and friendly, as is the chef. I actually came today after a really rough couple of days, and seeing how warm the service was made me feel better about my day afterwards. You can tell how grateful they are.Sumo Roll also is pretty quiet in terms of volume too. You typically won't hear loudly banging pots and pans in the kitchen, and the music they play is really peaceful. Sumo Roll stays as my favorite place to get sushi in the East Bay!
The service was impeccable. Very very nice people who anticipated every need with care and consideration. The food was mediocre at best. I ordered the unagi special combo which came with miso soup. The soup was barely warm and didn't taste better than instant. The shrimp tempura that accompanied the combo was decent. It was a large portion of rice under the unagi. The unagi was baked but the texture seemed a little off to me. I only ate half. It also wasn't very hot either. The hottest thing I had was tea. It took 15 minutes for it to become drinkable lol. It was a good portion for $3. It tasted a bit overbrewed though. In general, the service is worth it. Everything else was okay.

Tried the ramen, a specialty roll and the salmon teriyaki. The egg in the ramen was super overcooked. Specialty roll was pretty good. Salmon and the shrimp tempura was also overcooked. Unfortunately it was also pretty slow. The server was nice and apologetic but overall it’s. Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: $20–30
Fairly small place, delicious food. Seemed like they limit the number of people. Reservations highly recommended. A single chef was doing a great job getting the orders flowing. Super fast service. Sushi and chicken katsu were delicious. The inside was a bit outdated and the place was a bit crammed. Service started well but as a couple more tables were occupied, our sever got distracted. Certainly a must try for the quality of food.
