A great small pub on micklegate in york. friendly, friendly staff and accessible, as the side entrance is stepless and suitable for wheelchair users. well to see that for not a huge location, there is also a disabled toilet system. all safety measures in covid. the sitting area in the open is also a good little sunfall. update: another visit, still so good. not too busy, but too wet to use the sun protection!

I recently enjoyed a delicious meal at a cafe where I ordered cheesy scrambled eggs on toast with a side of hash browns. The service was extremely fast, and I was impressed to learn that the staff are all volunteers. The menu had a touching message about the cafe being not for profit, with all proceeds going towards saving lives. The atmosphere was delightful, with friendly waitresses and a kind bartender named Jared who I had a lovely chat with. The owner, Joel, clearly has a passion for serving people as he personally checked on customers to ensure they were happy with their food. The cafe had a strong sense of community, which I believe is their goal. While it was quiet when I arrived, it quickly filled up. Despite only being open every couple of weeks, I will definitely be returning for the same delicious meal. I was pleasantly surprised as my expectations were exceeded - it wasn't just a regular church tea room, but a proper, lovely cafe. The scrambled eggs were especially amazing and I have tried to recreate them at home without success. I'm not sure how they make them, but they are truly delicious!
