Fantastic Food Brilliant Service We’ve been several times now to this restaurant and it has always been a wonderful experience. The food is outstanding, ingredients put together in ways I could never imagine or hope to achieve. The service is warm, professional and calm the whole atmosphere of the restaurant is like this. You’re left to enjoy your food and conversation at a pace where you take it all in. An absolute... View all feedback.
What Alain Boutin dislikes about Melton's:
if they want to spray the money on a meal and impress their dame or business partner, then this is their place. I was for some of their food offerings that they offer once a month, and if the standard of food on these occupants is everything to go until then this is really good eating. but it comes to a seriously great price the wine list is wide and diverse. when they think about going on a Sunday, especially meetin... This is a big plus for public access to information collected by public officials food hygiene inspection undertake by local authorities like York is public and one the web search for scoresonthedoors' So as reviews here say expensive BUT score for hygiene two stars out of five. So thats three worse than Macdonald's and the like. Some non-compliance with legal duties and industry codes of recommended practice. Standards are being maintained or improved Hmm I should hope so at those prices!
After several near perfect meals at Melton's over the years, I feel obliged to shout about this place to the world. The menu is small, but don't let that put you off as each course has been cleverly crafted to offer interest and a memorable experience, complemented with a well balanced wine list compiled by Lucy the owner of this friendly yet professionally run gem just minutes from the city centre. On our last visit we were welcomed by their new manager who appeared to manage a full house with grace and calm, yet still found the time to share his enthuasism for the place and make us a couple of great champagne cocktails, before we tucked into yet another fabulous meal topped off with an incredible hot lemon souffle.Make sure if your visiting York to put this at the top of your must visit list.
Meltons has been around for years, so it must have been doing something right. It has got some bad points though. It is very stuffy and pretentious, and you can see that it thinks very highly of itself. This has been enough to put me off at times. The food is very good and tasty, but the menu does not vary very much. They know how to make a very good sauce, but then they use it on everything! They do a good early birds menu, if you want to give it a try without breaking the bank, as it can be very expensive. It is good, but trying too hard to have the atmosphere of a michelin starred restaurant. Try J Bakers if you like things to be a little more relaxed.
Fantastic meal here for my husbands 40th birthday on Friday. We decided on the tasting menu and each and every course was outstanding. Tasted incredible and presented beautifully. The service was impeccable, the waiting on staff were attentive without being overbearing and their knowledge on each dish was spot on. Favourite dish of mine was the lemon and fennel pre-dessert. The best dish I've ever had. First time trying smoked eel too, something I'll definitely be looking out for on menus from now on. Overall. Fantastic night and I'll be recommending this restaurant to anyone wanting a fine dining restaurant in York.
