As a f... read more I booked Sheldrakes for a birthday celebration for my mum over 2 weeks in advance through their website, and received a confirmation email straight away. As a family we had been here a few times over the years and thoroughly enjoyed our experience each time, however when our party arrived at the restaurant in time for our booking, the doors were shut and lights were off. My mum and I stood in the pouring rain getting soaked while the rest of our party walked around to the front of the building to see if they could see anybody around. The place was closed. I didn’t receive any communication from Sheldrakes to say they would be closed and therefore wouldn’t be able to fulfil the booking, and our group then had to look for somewhere else to eat at very short notices Reading the rest of the recent reviews here it sounds like it was a blessing in disguise! So disappointing as we used to love coming here, however I would now avoid at all costs.

We turned up for our meal to discover the place was completely shut. I had no communication from the restaurant to say there was a problem with the booking or that the restaurant wasn’t open. Really disappointed, would not bother again.

We have tried several times to pop in f... read more Popped in yesterday for a late lunch with friends. We had travelled from Chester. They were closed for private function. We have tried several times to pop in for drinks/lunch, always closed. I did try phoning and nobody answered, just presumed very busy. Complete waste of time, we went for a walk on beach and had lunch elsewhere in Heswall. Great shame.

The st... read more I had high hopes for Sheldrakes. It is a little gold mine with the location but unfortunately I don't think they have the right people running the place. The staff are clueless, not a single clue how to treat customers. We had to ask for cutlery for our seafood platter. The menus were pieces of paper stapled together. The seafood platter was mostly cold and I could have done a better job cooking at home. Wasn't sufficient for 2 people and not for £30. I am giving 2 stars for the view and location. The patio could use some serious TLC. I cannot believe how such a great place could be let down by the people taking care of it.
