Contribute FeedbackLocated in Margaret River, Fishbone is a unique dining experience that combines Japanese and Korean cuisine with excellent wines. Despite its unassuming exterior, the food is flavorful and the wine list impressive. The friendly and enthusiastic staff are a highlight, and the modern interior with a large fish tank adds to the ambiance. Dishes such as the katsu chicken and slow-cooked pork belly are recommended, while the extensive wine tasting options provide a perfect complement to the meal. Overall, Fishbone is a must-visit for those looking for a fresh and tasty dining experience in the Margaret River region.
I was surprised by my pleasant experience.Yes, it looks like a shed by the side of the road. Yes, it can get very loud inside. Yes, the furniture is not fancy or high end. Amelia Park this ain't.The food though is good and full of flavour. My tempura udon soup was a generous bowl of al dente udon in a tasty broth that wasn't too salty and with pleasant tempura. We loved the lotus chips and multiple servings of the gyoza (vegetarian- extra points).Wines were excellent if you drink their reserves, especially their 2011 Cab Merlot.Staff were young, a little green but enthusiastic. The room is clearly too small for how busy they can get. Hopefully they can and will expand. Not much of a view as they do not have elevation. However, the cows in the next paddock are a cute touch and provide visual interest through the large windows.
For a tourist from Singapore, we need to get away from pastas and grilled meat after a few days. Can't fault this place for the friendly service and test taste the wines while the rest of family are waiting for their food. The chicken karaage is great. The squid karaage is so so. I like the light Riesling (no pungent 'petrol fumes' that is quite usual for the European varieties) and the less tannic Merlot. Just opposite the restaurant is the Margie river choc factory to do your choc shopping. I personally prefer Gabriel choca just 15min drive away.
The Japanese food is quite an awesome treat for a group of us Asians who miss some asian cuisine... As its a winery, the tastings are also complementary
Fishbone is a small winery located right opposite the chocolate company. We sat there trying their wines before starting off lunch. The wines were nothing really to rave about but i'd probably get a glass for lunch. There are hits and misses. The sushi was just average and i felt was overpriced. The beef tataki was good, but $18 for a few thin slices of beef again was really too much. I really liked the slow cooked pork belly and i would recommend that. The spicy don was really challenging even for someone used to spicy food. Its really really spicy and i suggest to ask them to tone it down a little. Although we were told that they were sharing plates , the size of the food was a single portion. The 2 girls serving us were really nice though, one of them even took time to recommend places to go after lunch.
Went here for lunch and it was a fantastic mealA total delight from start to finish.
