Another fantastic dining experience at 18 Below! I’m a big fan of their shrimp cocktail and the accompanying sauce. Although the service was a little slow tonight, the overall food and service were outstanding. They truly made up for it! The menu offers great variety and quality. View all feedback.
What Maine Guidebooks dislikes about 18 Below:
Stood at the host stand for 10 minutes with servers walking by before we were ever greeted. There were only 2 other tables so they weren’t busy. I ordered the scallops, they weren’t burnt to a crisp on one side, and then fell apart in a weird way almost like they weren’t true scallops. My partner had the tuna, and again it was way over cooked. Seems like there needs to be some training back there. View all feedback.
Everything was phenomenal. The pasta I had with the arctic char was so good! We picked the place because it had so many seafood options on the menu. We were initially turned away because it was a busy night for reservations. But the host, Gordon, was so awesome. He made it work for us between an upcoming reserved space. We were very impressed with the service and even more impressed with the food. 11/10, would definitely enthusiastically recommend.
I can usually pick a place apart but my wife and I had a fantastic time. We both love meat and they do it very well. The service was friendly but a little canned . Delivery was adequately quick but the food was absolutely worth the wait. I like asking myserver what they like most when I go somewhere new to me and unfortunately our server didn 't have anything off the cuff, neitherfor food nor drink. That 's not a negative exactly, it was just a small disappointment.
From the moment we arrived at the restaurant things were not warm and welcoming at all. I?m a traveler that was visiting this city only for the purpose to work. My coworkers and I like to have nice family style dinners while we are away from the comfortsof our homes and families. I made the reservation so that we could try the cuisine in this New England city together. We arrivedat different times and some of my coworkers were seated before I arrived. As soon as the male server with glasses saw me, heimmediately said party for Angel is around the corner. No welcome or greeting. I wasn?t asked who I was or if I was possibly asingle person wanted to be seated. Just assumed I was with the table that had people of color sitting at it. I found it odd, butimmediately knew it was definitely one of many micro aggressions we would experience before the night was over when another oneof my coworkers mentioned the same thing without me telling her my experience. The next thing that occurred was the blatantattitude from the waitress when one of my coworkers asked for a fresh glass of ice. When he asked for a new glass, she snappedback at him that there were glasses on the table. He asked for a fresh one because he was unsure of who?s glass was in front ofhim. She reluctantly brought it out to him. As we were ordering our meals, there were a lot of questions asked about the foodclearly because we aren?t from the area. When one of my coworkers asked how a particular steak was cooked and if it was a nicedish, she snidely said as long as you don?t ask for it well done it should be fine. Once again a micro aggressiveassumption. The thing that finally made me lose my appetite completely and made me feel extremely uncomfortable in this spacewas when our entrees were finally brought out to us. The male waiter with glasses brought out two salmons there were ordered. Mycoworker instructed that he ordered his with extra glaze and the one he was given was not made that way.
