My family had been going there for decades! It has been a very long time since we have gone. We took my mom here tonight for her 90th birthday, and it did not disappoint! The food is delicious, and the service is stellar. This is truly the best hidden gem in NJ.
Charming little restaurant with lovely decor. The food was outstanding, and there was plenty left over to take home. The service was top-notch and didn’t make us feel rushed at all. The chef stopped by to say hello and was very friendly. I ordered the chef’s menu, which included a three-course meal with tomato soup, eggplant parmigiana, and dessert. My guest chose the four-course menu, consisting of clams casino, pasta, filet mignon, and pecan pie. Everything was excellent. I would definitely come back!
I worked there as a busboy alongside Peter Berta around 1967-1968. I'm pleased to see that the restaurant is still thriving. I still recall sitting down with the staff to have a meal at the end of the night. Mrs. Berta was strict, but she always ensured that everyone was fed after the shift! It was a top-notch establishment, and back then, all of the staff were male.
I've visited this restaurant about five times, and the food is consistently good. However, my orders are often slightly incorrect. For instance, yesterday, we didn't receive the ginger ale we ordered, nor did we get a refilled Coke or the right coffee. Additionally, two out of the four desserts we ordered were wrong. Since there's only one waiter serving all the tables, it was difficult to get his attention.
