There was a good variety of cho... read more When this restaurant first opened it prided itself on its good cooking and variety. The proprietors claimed to be trained chefs. There was a good variety of choice with very good salads to accompany the meal. As a vegetarian it was good to have a varied selection. Now, there is just a choice of curry or two other dishes, if they are actually available. This choice of curry has become a popular option on pub menus, but it shows a lack of imagination or consideration. Last niggt I ended up with singed nut roast a very tired option) and conventional vegetables instead of something tastier with salad. There is normally a vegetable lasagne, but they had not bothered to make any. A very limited and dull selection. They also started out offering old fashioned, but fun deserts such as peach melba and banana split. Not any more!! A shame that they no longer make the effort to inspire and attract. The Welcome Stranger has become the ' I can 't be bothered. '

We were drawn in by the name of the restaurant, and it lived up to its reputation. We felt welcomed and ended up staying for a meal, which was delicious and reasonably priced. We also enjoyed the music playing in the background. The atmosphere was very pleasant. The food and drinks were good value and tasty, and the service was excellent. Overall, we would rate the location a 5 out of 5.
