Guest reviews praise White Hart’s character, cosy rooms and breakfasts and helpful staff; some note uneven evening meals, slow service at busy times and paid off‑site parking.
More hotel than pub, this is a good base to explore the glorious Devon countryside in an historic market town. Very good value and attractive B and B. Comfortable and clean room with a couple of tub armchairs. Decent shower and for a change superior loo roll paper. Irritating bathroom extractor which goes on forever. Oh well. Good simple breakfast choices which does the job. Inferior sauce sachets. Very comfortable communal lounge area with plenty of extra comfy sofas. Log fire, sadly not on fire. Cosy bar area but again log burner unlit. Pleasant crew.
A return visit to this wonderful hotel. Great freshly cooked breakfast from menu. Evening meals were wonderful with a great variety and offering good value for money. First class service each night. Highly recommended.
Promising vibe from the menu and website. Low key atmosphere, horrible bland fish pie. Very disappointing. We're staying in hotel and had booked breakfast which was much, much better although I would prefer a less environmentally damaging approach to butter (individually wrapped portions) and jam/marmalade (tiny individual jars).
We had an overnight stay at The White Hart and were very impressed with the value for money. The hotel is cosy and warm, the food was delicious and the staff are friendly. Bonus points for all the close by stunning walks and views of the Moors. Would definitely recommend! Service: 5

Insider tip: the White Hart has a quiet habit of leaving locally baked shortbread in some rooms and often stocks small jars of Devon jam and preserves — ask at reception for any pantry treats on sale to take a taste of Dartmoor home.
