The food and portions at this restaurant are fantastic! The prices are very fair for the quality of food you receive. Everything I tried was delicious and the staff is very friendly. I highly recommend this place. View all feedback.
What Arlette J doesn't like about Kingfish:
This place can, at times, be ok..The fish last time tasted very nice, chips not so great..We have had times where food has been very dry..We order now and again, not that often. If we were sure to have a lovely meal each time, I would go for it once a week or every two weeks..its a shame..but thank you , when cooked nicely, not bad at all and staff friendly View all feedback.
I have visited this restaurant a few times and, in my opinion, it is just average. I stopped by tonight on my way home at 9pm. The food was okay. When I ordered 2 savaloy and 1 order of chips, the guy asked me if I wanted a small or large portion. I glanced at the prices and opted for a small portion. However, he had already started on a large portion so I kindly asked for a small one instead. He poured some out and gave me my food. Maybe it sounds picky, but I believe he should not assume what I wanted and should not argue when I specify the portion size, especially since the shop was closing soon and the excess food would likely go to waste. I don't expect a freebie, but if I request a small portion after he has made a large one, so close to closing time, one would think he should just give me what he already served. The fact that he went to the trouble of pouring out the extra chips once I changed my order to a small portion made me feel like he was annoyed that I didn't order a large portion. Additionally, he was on his phone the entire time, which I found to be rude.
After my usual fish and chip shop was closed for the New Year, I decided to look for some chips to accompany the leftover turkey and ham from Christmas. I discovered that Kingfish in Caterham was open, so I ordered a large portion of chips to take away. Despite being handed quite a sizable package, I was disappointed to find that a large portion of it was actually a polystyrene tray. The £2.80 worth of chips inside were much smaller than I had anticipated, and to make matters worse, they were greasy, soggy, and unappetizing. I had hoped that the taste would redeem them, but unfortunately, they were so bad that they put me off my appetite entirely. I won't be returning to Kingfish and am eagerly awaiting the reopening of Salisbury's in Whyteleafe, where I know the quality of the food is exceptional.
I have been to this restaurant several times now and unfortunately, it has never been great. Today, the chips were either overcooked and hard or soggy and very greasy. The battered sausage was also incredibly greasy. I had to leave half of it as I started feeling nauseous.
I purchased freshly cooked fries and sausages at this restaurant. The chips were wonderfully crispy, and the staff was very friendly, engaging in pleasant conversation while I ate. The food was cooked well and reasonably priced. I will definitely return when I am in the area again.
The fish and chips at this restaurant are absolutely fantastic. They were recommended to us by a neighbor and we were definitely not disappointed. We have been back 5 times and each time they have cooked beautiful, fresh fish to perfection. The batter is light and the chips are the best I have ever had! The owner takes pride in his cooking and is a wonderful man. I highly recommend trying it for yourself!
