Little restaurant with a large open window onto the street. We had 2 Ricard’s plus other drinks to begin whilst we looked at the menu. Prawns in garlic, snails, chicken pate and french onion soup were among the entrees. We chose soup and prawns which were tasty, followed by fish of the day-John Dory, chateaubriand and crispy lamb chops. All was nicely presented with french fries and mixed salads. What Wiley McClure doesn't like about La Guillotine French:
the service was slow. the bark bourguignon was ok, but served a bit cold. we ordered the cream, it was not good. we also asked about the Dessert plate to share, the server did not know the price, but only said it was not expensive. we ordered it – obviously only a few small tortes and a minicake. was at the end surprised that it was $40. the server also made a big problem out of our layout of the bill that we gave a... He also asked for a tip that claimed he and the other waiter would have served us all night. never was specifically asked for a tipp in Australia! and the service was not really great.
Before they even enter the restaurant, they can see the sign that they have been there since the 60s, and it shows with the decor. instead of then a cozy romantic mood, it just felt really dated. it was an early booking for Saturday night, but it was pretty quiet. the service was a bit dirty. there was no free brot in contrast to most French restaurant. we ordered the escargots, and asked if it came with brot, the waiter said no, so we ordered a couple of brot so that he did not mention that the pate we ordered also came with brot, so we ended up with too much brot! the castlebriand was average, the meat was ok, but not in love with the bear sauce. the rest of the menu...read more
I use this app search for good eating as usual, but this time is different! if they ever dare to book a table in this restaurant on this app, the restaurant personal will really be mad at them! at the end they have canceled me! much luck!
A complete joy! warm and sophisticated ambiente without an intention. joseph was very helpful, amusing and accommodating. as a culinary experience, our evening was just perfect. excellent wein recommendations (without meeting the upper end) beef bourguignon was cooked and prepared for perfection, the scent of crepe suzette was totally intoxicating! great service. I had a perfect birthday party thanks to many.
Good tasting food and great service. Our waiter went out of his way to cater for us, but not in an invasive way. He let us order the mussels as a half dish and change our mashed potatoes to potato gratin. All the food was delicious. Would recommend the mussels and the lamb cutlets.
