Feedback
Was Anonym at Contrabando a mag?
The atmosphere was fantastic, and the staff were very friendly. The food was decent, but the guacamole was definitely the highlight. If I returned, it would be for drinks and snacks rather than a full dinner. View all feedback.
What Anonym dislikes about Contrabando:
Service was friendly but inefficient, drinks arrived midway through our email. The lamb was dry and chewy. Tacos were excellent. Fun place if you don’t expect too much. View all feedback.
Well, what a nice little underground restaurant. I loved the flavours here. The only trick with this place is..... (actually there are 5 tricks) 1) Things like tacos and quesadilla cannot be altered so as a vegetarian who hates goats cheese / blue cheese etc, I wasn't able to have those meals altered which was sooooo disappointing. I had the guac and it was spectacular which was lucky!2) The staff are unbelievably rude - like really rude! Try not to ask questions as they don't care for customer interaction or any sort.3) Wear a outfit that you would if you were being sent to the desert in Dubai on a summer's day. It's hot as hell down there so try not to be seated by the wall with the hottest lights in the world above you. 4) Balancing time - The floors in the restaurant are slippery as a bon jovi album. 5) Extreme Balancing - The bathroom floors are even more slippery and I saw a poor girl stack it as she entered the oiliest or soapiest floor in all of Sydney. No idea how she didn't break her arm. You've been warned. Wear your helmet, knee pads and wrist guards before entering!Having said all that, the rest of the group I went with all loved their 'meat' meals and if I followed my above recommendations for some reason I'd still visit again.
I go almost every Tuesday for the amazing $3 tacos. The fish and beef are incredbly delicious, the prawn and pork are my next favourites. Not a fan of the chicken or mushroom, simply because the other flavours are so phenomenal and more impressive.I've ordered margaritas a few times and they were good too, only $10 on Tuesdays.Highly recommended! But you almost always need to book in advance.Oh and for vegetarians there is the Mushroom taco, but you can also get the fish taco ingredients with sweet potato instead of fish.
If you get the groupon $19 all you can eat tacos, you will not be disappointed. We didn't take any pictures but they look so much better than the pictures that are already posted on trip advisor. You walk through a door, downstairs to the basement where everything is dark and you do wonder how good it's really going to be. You must have a booking otherwise it is unlikely you will get in. The staff aren't always the nicest here but you still get the tacos in and out in record time and each ones tastes fantastic. It is a good opportunity to try new things. Our favourite is the fish taco and the mushroom taco.
We couldn’t do the all you can eat tacos because we wanted to go in for dinner and drinks on the Friday night, but the reviews and pics were good so we went anyways! We were a hungry group of 6 and could not make up our minds so we went with the Mexicola set menu. I would definitely recommend ordering the truck stop guac, chargrilled corn and fish tacos! Cheeseburger spring rolls was a fun try however not a must try. The churros was definitely unique, never had churros like this but it tasted amazing with the caramel sauce. Definitely would come back to try other dishes.
I highly recommend the fish tacos at this restaurant! The fish was incredibly crispy and paired perfectly with a variety of sauces. If you visit on Tuesdays, you can enjoy an amazing deal with $3 tacos, or opt for the all-you-can-eat taco option, making it a fantastic and affordable feast!
