Description
Dining experiences at local restaurants can be hit or miss, and recent visits to IHOP in Sumter highlight this variability. Many guests reported frustrating delays, a lack of staff, and poor food quality, leading to disappointing outings. However, recent management changes have sparked a turnaround, as some patrons praised improved service and food quality, noting the attentiveness of new staff members. Yet, inconsistencies remain, with others encountering cleanliness issues and confusion over open hours. Overall, while some now find IHOP a better choice, caution is advised based on mixed reviews of service and food reliability.

The experience at this restaurant was excellent. The prices were reasonable for two people. I ordered the large breakfast called the "Extreme" which included 3 sausages, 3 bacon strips, and scrambled eggs with onion and cheese. It also came with their special seasonal pancakes topped with apple ala mode. My husband ordered the same but with pumpkin spice pancakes. Both meals were delicious and highly recommended. Our waitress, Annette, was fantastic.
The breakfast was good, with a generous portion of hash browns. The blueberry pancakes were slightly overcooked but still tasty. The waitress was very friendly although busy. I appreciated the bottomless coffee and the staff's dedication to keeping the tables clean.
I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. As a person with disabilities, I had to go inside last minute to get takeout. The kind lady at the register was extremely helpful. She allowed me to sit down and personally helped me choose items for my picky son, placing them in separate containers which was a true blessing. She was friendly and enjoyable to converse with. When I got home, everything was perfect and the food was delicious.
This restaurant appears to be abandoned. I walked around for 15 minutes trying to get someone's attention, but there was no sign of anyone. The cash register was left open and the fire alarm door was wedged open. The work ethic of the people in Sumter is one of the worst I have ever seen. The restaurant is dirty, so who knows if the food is any good since there is no one to ask for assistance. It seems like the employees are probably out back smoking or goofing off on TikTok. I would not recommend coming here at all. They should consider firing the employees and starting fresh.
The management at this restaurant is consistently late and expects employees to be on time. I have been waiting for my paychecks for two weeks, while other restaurants like ihop pay their employees weekly. As of October 24, 2023, I am missing three paychecks. I have contacted the labor board, but they have been unable to reach the management. When I called ihop to inquire about my paycheck, I was told that the management was not available. This restaurant lacks organization and direction, and it should be shut down. Employees who work hard and dedicate their time to the company deserve better treatment.
