We had a reservation for 6 pm on a Sunday evening, convenient for after a theater matinee in this summer theater city. When we got to the restaurant, there were no customers and a sign on the door said CLOSED. An employee (or owner?) came to the door and said that they were closed because they ran out of food (but he did offer to answer any questions about the menu)! Service is a bit slow but considering it's two guys running it, it's great. The food is excellent, and different even from standard or more prominent south east asian cuisine. The wings were quite a pleasant surprise if a bit sweet, definitely not a meal by themselves though (even for those sated by a pound of wings)!
Located steps from the Avon theatre. Come here before the show for Lao food made with passion by friendly brothers, Charlie and Christopher, re-creating their favourite dishes they grew up with. Don't let the simple decor fool you... slip into one of the comfortable church pews and get ready for the real deal! The Nam Khao and Larb are amazing and the boys and their staff will happily make them vegan upon request. Do you like fried chicken??? The Lao Fried chicken will blow your mind. They are licsensed to sell beer and wine but also have some interesting canned juices typical of South East Asia.Lao food is a rare find and Lauhaus does not disappoint. I am from Toronto and have been frequenting Stratford often over the past few months. Laohaus is firmly on my itinerary each time. Enjoy.
One of our absolutely favourite restaurants in town. The lao fried chicken is like no other and everything else we've tried has been perfect.
