My husband and I had a wonderful dinner with another couple on one of our trips to Stratford to see plays at the Stratford Festival. Bijou never disappoints! Three of us had the shrimp roll appetizer while the other had the golden beets. Both were yummy! Two of us had the Atlantic scallops, one had the pork capicola, and the other had the perennial favourite duck confit. Dessert was the blueberry tart for three of us... View all feedback.
What BertEdmonton doesn't like about Bijou:
I'll try to keep this brief. Great food, cramped seating, inexperienced waiter (just ours, don't know about others) and if you order the scallops, be prepared to stop somewhere after you leave the Bijou for some food, as you will still be hungry. Three not large scallops, well prepared, three small similar sized potato pucks, and a good sauce. My guess is this is less than a three ounce protein portion. Maybe even tw... View all feedback.
An intimate little place with an attention to detail that makes it special even among a flock of excellent restaurants in Stratford. Given the min industry in that town, which is high culture, you would expect creative and well cooked food. But the general sense that getting it ri is important to them comes through loud and clear. First truly French restaurant I've eaten at outside of France. Highly recommend.
My wife and I were excited to try our first meal in Stratford at Bijou on September 2, 2023. While the service was impeccable, we did not enjoy our culinary experience. We ordered a medium rare sirloin cap which unfortunately arrived to our table well done, smothered in sauce. The chef must have clearly known it was not cooked correctly and covered it in sauce instead of firing a new steak $44). At first it was no big deal we understand that this happens and they were more than happy to return our food.We ordered another dish the Argentinian shrimp. After cutting into the shrimp we discovered it was RAW! Completely grey on the inside and it was not de veined properly either. My wife and I left extremely disappointed on our wedding anniversary with stomach upset overnight.
Great place to go for dinner after an afternoon show. Duck confit and veal Milanese was good. Portions are huge. Wine list was rather light but we found one we loved. Service was excellent and pricing was good. We will definitely be coming back!Food: 5/5
Inventive food of a high quality. Not inexpensive but the use of local ingredients is noted and appreciated. I'd rather pay 25% more for Perth County pork, beef, etc. than save 25% had the restaurant used Gordon Food Services wholesale supply meat.Raspberry gazpacho was fun but a bit too spicy; I like spicy but I wanted to taste more of the summer raspberry flavour. The crispy duck with wild berries, nuts, flax seeds was fun and rustic. Presentation was nice
A delightful bistro in downtown Stratford. Excellent server, an imaginative menu, and lovely background music. Made a welcome change from the typical North American fare of burgers, wings, fries, big screen TVs, and loud music.Food: 5/5
