We were seated in the conservatory... read more Booked here for Friday dinner. On arrival we were met by a pretty unenthusiastic member of staff who showed us to our table. We were seated in the conservatory area which, although having a lovely view of the river, was more reminiscent of a nursing home, totally lacking in atmosphere. Starters were pretty average and we ordered Streak Ale pie and Venison Stew as mains. The steak pie was pretty tasteless, with a watery gravy and my partners stew was again pretty tasteless and watery to the point that she had to ask for a spoon to eat it. The sticky toffee pudding dessert wasn’t as good as a shop bought one from Morrisons. There’s a general lack of enthusiasm from staff and I must say that those working in the restaurant were extremely scruffy and appeared to have no idea how to work an iron. I was pretty disappointed with this place and I really wouldn’t recommend it. I certainly won’t be returning.

A group of 37 of us enjoyed a delicious three-course dinner prepared by a talented chef in a beautiful dining room. The Chicken Balmoral was a standout dish. After dinner, we were entertained by the band of Duncan and Jock who provided lively music for a Ceilidh, with help from friendly locals. Overall, it was a fantastic evening and we want to thank Prachi and the team at this lovely old hotel for their hospitality.
